When the C130 tankers were going to be retired/sold I tried to get RAF Lynham, IWM Duxford and Marshalls interested in preserving one. This would have made an impressive tribute to all those (civil and military) who had contributed to the rapid conversion for the Falklands. I did not receive a single reply from anyone….

Reading the efforts to recover and identify a serviceman lost over 70 years ago and give him
the burial he deserves shows how much the USA cares.
Unlike the two RAF sergeants, one in Kent and the other in Egypt still where they fell because it was too much bother.

Very well done on your website. Especially the videos.
Excellent!

I would try contacting them direct. I expect that is all recorded in their archives.

Also their Facebook page.

Just to confuse/clarify that old photo. Concorde was turned round and moved toward the aircraft park last year.
I hope the WW1 aircraft (at least) are not left outside while the work is carried out. Perhaps a framed ‘tent’ building
like the bus museum would be a solution?

If it hadn’t been for Bill Boddy of ‘Motor Sport’ magazine and a few others forming the Brooklands Society
in the 1970s the whole site would have been lost. The Club bridge had already been pulled down (now replaced)
I can remember going into the site in the 70s and realising I had driven through the large break in the banking
to access the industrial estate. Can they really expect to dismantle and rebuild that hangar in 18 months though?

And here too.

Great to see the first really big step forward since Concorde’s arrival.

Considering its history it looks in nice fettle now. When I walk round aircraft like this I wonder why the designer who is often the first constructor and pilot makes life more difficult? Those pitot tubes (?) sticking up (above the prop wash I realise) must cause drag on a low powered machine, why not out on the wing with the pipework inside? As for the viz, well!

Certainly true
see here http://www.rafcommands.com/forum/showthread.php?3931-RAF-Holme-on-Spalding-Moor-Yorkshire
Thank you. A farmer who lived in the area told me that it happened, but I wondered how true. We had been discussing
‘Buried Lancasters’ at the time!

I was told (many moons ago) that when a Buccaneer had been completed at Brough, they were towed with wings folded along a main road to an airfield a few miles away. Was this true?

Have you a link to any plans for that, I’d be interested to read more. It’s a great museum in every respect at Brooklands.
No link online, but it is talked about after the current plan to move and rebuild the ‘Wellington’ hangar.

Brooklands does have a long term plan to cover their aircraft with a ‘wing’ roof. Concorde, VC10, Vanguard, Viscount, 1-11 and the Viking do comprise a sizable ‘civil collection.’

Has anyone seen a release date for the ‘official’ DVD yet? The last I read was ‘in the Spring.’ Nothing listed on the CWHM website. I would expect a rush to pre order it. 🙂

I remember signing a petition to keep Black 6 flying the day it crash landed. 😮

Thank you from me too. I must try and pick a nice sunny day next year and have a wander around again.
Happy New Year.
