It seems there was a problem with the fuel system and the ferry tank.

Some years ago there was a motor racing series in the UK that used Alcohol. It was an idea from Brazil I think and was brewed from sugar cane? Strange smell and was difficult to see when on fire ๐Ÿ˜ฎ
Where would your methane come from Melvyn? The old cowshed? ๐Ÿ˜€

Looks good in gold. This is how the sun (and I) caught her one day in the early 80s

The site has been advertised for sale in aviation magazines. Some of the buildings are listed and the suggested uses are as a business community or a civil airfield!

The original article I linked on ANN said the ‘he discovered that he was losing fuel’ Perhaps he had a ferry tank installation that had a leak?

    Morning all,

Apart from the Canberras which I might guess, could have been partly spares recovered for the RAF, can anyone say what has happened to the Meteor D.16, WH453, the Phantom and the whole of the remaining Jindivik fleet?

Sorry if I have missed any posts about the later aircraft, but the Jindivik deserves a place in a major museum.

I know of the Shelduck drone in the Super Hanger at Duxford, but cannot remember if there are any Jindiviks in Museums already.

    Cheers

    Tim

Last months Aeroplane reported that the Meteor D16 was flown to Boscombe Down on its last ever flight and a decision was still to be made on its future.

Well race fans, time for some New Yearโ€™s resolutions. As I will be in the Popham area in March Iโ€™ve decided that a flight in the Rearwin would be just the thing. Of course, knowing Melvcock he will still be fidgeting with this and that, doing endless taxi test, running up and down the runway just asking for an accident. Anything except flying the silly thing. Well, come the 5th of March the Rearwin will fly. I may be making its FIRST flight, but the Rearwin will fly. Has anyone got a seat cushion to help me reach the rudder peddles?

Oh, and youโ€™re all invited out for coffee and slagging after.

    Patty

I was going to enquire if Melvin would be allowed to make the first flight or if a pilot with experience on type might have to come from the US and test it first. (But now I don’t need to) ๐Ÿ˜€

Has your paper work equalled the weight of the aeroplane yet? Or are there a few more kilos to go? ๐Ÿ™‚

I suppose the Boxkite and Avro Triplane replicas at Shuttleworth were not considered historic at one time, but now they are 40 years old themselves, are they?

Interesting that the police didn’t bother to guard the wreck overnight. If one or more of the vandals had be injured, who would have got the blame?

Not sure about the airshows, but Duxford falls victim to both vandals and component thieves. Someone took a Stanley knife to the SR-71 not so long ago, and Land Warfare is often having bits pinched off the vehicles for private owners with zero scruples.

Regular visitors; our MAs can’t be everywhere at once. If you see anyone acting suspiciously feel free to politely ask what it is they’re doing. If you’re concerned, find someone in red and white or wearing a coloured lanyard with a pass on it. All assistance much appreciated! I would like to think that our airshows are more secure with the levels of staffing and the pay-to-enter flightline, but I couldn’t say.

Perhaps the Land Warfare building should exchange its plastic barbed wire for the real stuff!
Seriously I have never seen anything like that happening there and I hope I never shall.

I just wonder how Brooklands ever managed to raise the Wellington R-Robert from Loch Ness and restore it to the magnificent exhibit it is now? The Halifax at the time it was raised was the only one existing and certainly appears in better condition now than R Robert did when it arrived. Perhaps the missing phrase here is ‘enthusiastic management’ That’s what has brought Concorde Delta Golf home to Brooklands and encouraged a team of volunteers to form to help restore it.

Perhaps an enquiry to DH Support (in the case of the Chipmunk) Maybe there is a known or as yet unknown problem with the hydraulic brakes?
