The date in the book is Thursday July 25th 1940. Jenver airfield near Wilhelmshaven. My original remark was made more at the way the book ends without tidying up the details. The fly leaf tells how he was eventually repatriated because doctors thought he would not live long. However he was a schoolteacher for 30 Years afterwards and had retired!

A battledress item surely still belongs to the RAF or at least the MOD?

Anymore on a Hurricane two seat? It was mentioned in one of the mags a year or so ago that (re)building one was a possibility. Was it something to do with Hawker Restorations?

Alex, Who builds these aircraft, presumably more than one company? Your photos look as though they were taken at a ‘brand new’ Shuttleworth Collection. 🙂
Anyway, excellent photos.

I suspect the ‘authorities’ want someone else to pay for the field. Like the airlines. Is it the airfield that has the ‘Gooney Bird’ problem? I remember the US Navy had a such a problem on one of its airfields that they moved out.

The CAA used the 748 for testing both pilots and the approach facilities of civil airports. I remember seeing them based at Stansted. The RAF used their version (Andovers) to test the military airfield equipment.
