There is a article in the ‘Mail on Sunday’ review section, written by the reseacher. Pity the ‘other’ pilot died last year.

Eastbourne Air show this week. Aircraft are based at Manston, Bournmouth, Hurn, Biggin, Gatwick…. take your pick!

Excellent thread Dave. I sometimes see these adorning the walls of a museum. They and all too few (static and flying) products still in existence are all thats left to remind us, of the companies who mainly shrivelled into something called Bae Systems.

A different bump tonight. These were taken at the Battle of Britain Memorial at Capel Le Ferne today. Very Peaceful….

Nice, very nice. 🙂

Definitely not a Spitfire Daz. 😮

The RAF only ordered about 10. The spares support must have been a problem. They were sold off to civilian operators like Heavy Lift and then were hired when ever the need arose. I see the that a second airframe currently at Southend, UK is being returned to flight so it can join its sister ship in Oz.

Careful Ashley, or you might get the job of making curtains for all the hangar windows. 🙂

The RAF Museum at Cosford and the IWM at Duxford both have normal hangars with natural light through large side windows. The American Air Museum at Duxford has the a large glass wall facing the Sun!
The airframes suffer more when left outside to face the British climate.
Light affects textiles and paintings and the conservation organisations like the National Trust control the amount of light that furnishings receive by curtains. I don’t think that it would be possible to ‘put curtains’ on the 7 hangars at Duxford. 🙂
Note: Flash lights are allowed at Duxford and the RAF Museums but tripods need a permit. Presumably to limit numbers.

Hi Oh Silver 😀

Found these URLs on ‘UFOs’ in the UK. Some of these ‘Investigators’ on the web can be taken with a large pinch of salt. But the sightings mentioned here must have at least a grain of truth. But please don’t think that I believe all of them!
These involved both the RAF and USAF in 1956. The area is East Anglia (Eastern) England

18 dead in 1 day and the last couple of days had been so quiet…..

Must have been the UK ‘Daily Mail’ or possibly the ‘Daily Express’ but I think it got around a bit!

The B o B ‘presentation’ wasn’t working yesterday either!

The Hendon museum seems to lost its way in some places. When the new Milestones hall was built, I went into the museum via the original entrance. I then ended up getting into ‘milestones’ the wrong way. I see that the way to the correct entrance has now been painted on the path!
Putting helicopters, jets, trainers and WW2 types in sections together is a good idea. It also enables short guided tours too be made. But the Battle of Britain hall needs a complete redesign. Maybe removing all the sets at the beginning and putting a short video presentation on. This would allow unrestricted access to the aircraft, which is what the RAF Museum is about.
