Has the matter of insurance been tackled yet? Will any commercial company cover the Vulcan even for third party loss. I think the MOD always covered their own losses. What is the premium for a Vulcan?

The SAA commentator (another pilot) said that the display pilot had about 17,000 hours in his book. Stratton Richie (who flies 777s) said afterwards that he tried doing that display in BAs 747 simulator and found he needed a lot of practise. 🙂

The RE8 (at Duxford) can double those pipes. Pity neither aircraft will fly again. 🙁

Two engines on display at Hendon. Perhaps not beautiful but you can ‘see’ the power even if they will never run again.
1. Napier Sabre cutaway.
(Somebody suggested on a thread recently that perhaps replicas could be built!)
2. Rolls Royce Sea Griffon. Used in high speed launches etc.

Wys could fly it round his room. 😀

‘RAF Coltishall in Norfolk will close by the end of 2008. ‘
Little way ahead yet but there is a excellent collection of cockpits at Coltishall. I think one of the restorers has been on this forum. I hope they both find another home. 🙁

The last hurricane sized storm we had was about 15 years ago. I didn’t hear anything about any aircraft found after it. Perhaps in the channel?
Von Perths is the man to settle this. 🙂

With Shuttleworth caption. 🙂

Listening to the commentator on the web yesterday. He (Stratton Richie?) suggested that the SBAC send the bill for the display to Blackbushe. 🙂

I listened to the commentary today. Does anyone know if the B52 did display at Farnborough or Blackbushe. 😮 I shall be interested to see the A318 doing that 5deg. approach!

‘The squadrons of the deep’
mmitch.
I was reading recently ‘Lie in the Dark and Listen’ by Ken Ellis (Excellent book by the way) In an aside on ‘extras’ that were dropped from bombers over their targets. One rear gunner he flew with used to take a couple of bottles to pee in en route and then throw them out at the critical time! Old nuts and bolts etc also made the one way trip to Germany.

Half a squadron lost in a day……. We will remember.

I can see a queue of tents forming by the fence at OW already. 🙂

Bruce McLaren’s team mate was Denny Hulme.
Silverstone held the first World Championship Grand Prix event.
In the 1980’s the runway still prominent in that aerial photo was used by fixed wing aircraft even during GP meetings. I remember seeing Trilanders flying in there. Now days Tuwestone takes all the suitable fixed wing traffic and some helicopters. There is a cross country route by 4X4s to Silverstone and helios also use the Silverstone runway as a heli pad. Over the GP weekend in past years around 2000 helicopter movements are recorded.
The Hangar straight did indeed have a large hangar on the in field just after Abbey curve. I saw it filled up and emptied with Coco cola and the like one year in the 70’s 🙂
