That first one is the fatigue test specimen I believe. It will never fly but go into the test rig. I suppose no engines will be fitted but weights to simulate them? Its got to be done so they can find the ‘life’ of the major components.

Thanks for the link Mark and welcome to the forum. Does the museum have any airworthy aircraft owned by it or based there?

Little while since I saw it now but it was made in dramatised documentary style. Some newsreel footage like the entry of the ‘Ohio’ tanker into the harbour for instance. Funny enough the film is on Ch 4 in the UK next Friday.

I live in North Kent about 50 miles from both Manston and Gatwick. Using main roads it is dual carriageway and motorway to both. It took me less than an hour to get to Manston yesterday. It took nearly 2 hours to fight through the jams to Gatwick one Monday morning last Summer. A rail link is promised between Manston and London mainline by 2006. Manston is like Preswick, a sorely under used facility.

There is another 747 out on the airfield it was painted all white and its ident appeared to be TF-ARL. This was through binoculars and and a fence at an angle! Possable Air Atlanta?

If you got software with your camera to load your photos into your PC check all the menus. I took 60 shots at a wedding recently all with last years date but was able to re date the whole lot in one go.

Little way ahead yet but the Biggin Hill Air Fair which will be in September this year has both the Dutch and Swiss Connies booked for the show. The Dutch one is listed on their website but the Swiss has been announced this week in our local newspaper which is part sponsoring the event.

More than a year ago I heard that the Hercules tankers that were converted by Marshall’s of Cambridge for the Falklands conflict were near the end of their flying days and would be ‘dismantled’ . I emailed the PR people at RAF Lynham, Duxford and Marshalls to suggest that a Hercules should be preserved and what better than one of the tankers. I never received any replies

Britain is still firmly in the Eurofighter Typhoon project. They may cut down the total of the first order however. No. 17(R) Squadron the Operational Evaluation Unit is currently using four production aircraft to work up at the Warton factory airfield. No.17 will eventually move to Conningsby in 2005. I read recently that they are flying twice the number of hours they expected to get as they ironed out any problems.

At least it has still got wheels, not on house bricks. 🙂
