As I understand it the VC10 and Merchantman are to be moved to the front car park with the Viscount. The land that they stand on at the moment is not owned by the museum. This land and some of the old concrete runway has been bought by Mercedes Benz for a ‘heritage Centre and test track’ Brooklands will get a grass runway out of all of these changes. The only area I can think of large enough for a Concorde hangar is the one at the bottom of the old Club banking? Then there will be the problem of enough car parking? The Museum will certainly be a building site for a couple of years!

Anyone know if British Airways have held onto the archives of BOAC and BEA or have they been passed to a museum or record office?

If I remember the story correctly the ‘boat was invited to give Gatwick a low flyby on its way to West Malling. The ATC sent a joke bill to the pilots for repairs to the runway and a large dry cleaning bill for their trousers. 🙂
It was a wonderful sight to see her appear in company with the Catalina without any warning.

Or 2 take offs and a landing. On several occasions at Manston I have seen a school aircraft (after getting permission) do a take off, practice forced landing with engine failure and then open up and take off again all easily within the 10,000′ 🙂
I seem to remember that portable arrester gear was brought in to Duxford for one or two arrivals. The F111 I believe was one.

AR 213 at Silverstone in late 1970s. Patrick Lindsey was racing his ERA in Vintage Sports Car Club events. He flew into the track in his Spitfire. Tony Bianchi took it up in the lunch break and beat the s**t out of the track, flying between the grandstands etc. Wonderful. 🙂

Concorde Alpha alpha is being dismantled at LHR for its journey to East Fortune. Expected to start around the 4th April.
BBDG will probably move much later using cradles etc from the AA move. On the concorde SST site there is a photo of the Air France Concorde being lifted onto the roof of the German museum.

Barra Airport (already mentioned) had a Fly In for light aircraft last year and I believe it is planned again. This URL links the airports info site.

RAF Hercules do land on beaches (in Wales) and refuel helios while there. There was a TV doc. last year on Lynham which showed practice landings until the tide came in too far!

Amazing that they were seperate accidents in the same area. I thought that they would turn out to be aircraft dumped or washed overboad from a ship together. It seems that ‘Flight 19’ is a good deal further of the US coast. Did the crash investigator say around 230 miles?

Farnborough is on every 2 years as it’s in July this year there won’t be one in 2005. RIAT Fairford is on each year. This website has sections and links for most air events in the UK, Europe and the US/Canada. The dates are all for 2004 at the moment but will show 2005 ones as they become arranged.

Wrecks & Relics says that its C.o.A expired 13th December 1985. Presumably it arrived before then?
