It puts ‘100 years of powered flight’ into perspective that the Boxkite though a replica is its self nearly 40 years old!

The RAF Museum, Hendon, London has a Battle on display. There are brief details and one side photo at:-

Perhaps they can help with cockpit photos.

Are there any plans to preserve examples at Duxford/Cosford/Hendon?

Apart from the sterling work done by ALL the fleet over the years, there must be individual aircraft that have ‘noteworthy’ histories eg Falklands Ops and many other events

On hearing that the C130K ‘Falklands Tanker’ converted a/c were running out of hours, last year I emailed Marshalls. RAF Lynham and IWM Duxford about preserving an example. Not one replied 🙁

The Fairey Gannet flyby with one engine (and prop) stopped. I knew how it worked even as a 10 year old but it still looked strange. New warbird then in the 50’s.

I found the article from A***plane June 2001. Essentially Ant is correct. The 2 seat Hurri was devised by a US Aircobra squadron who had a Hurricane as a target tug. They converted it so they could take their ground crews up for a flight.
If you use Ask Jeeves for Jim Pearce refs it throws up one ‘Aeroplane June 2001’ which reprints the whole article. The full link is too long to go here.

Anyone got a pic for any non-believers (if any!)?

From memory (sometimes dodgy) it was an article about a Hurricane restorer (Hawker restorations?) that had the parts from a 2 seat Hurri. The ambition was to build one given time and money. There wasn’t one completed.

Dipping into a book of ‘Flight’ reports it describes the Dragonfly as improved structually with as you say a smaller cabin for one pilot and four passengers. The Rapide carries 6 or more.
