The fly away price I’ve got from a top executive at dassault a few years ago is around 55M€-60M€ depending on the version. That’s probably the most precise figure as you never know how those costs calculation are made when reported in the GAO or cours des comptes etc which is often “all inclusive”.
Now there is nothing legal or illegal…That’s a matter of what one is willing to pay or not. I doubt there is a single law foundation to raise a case. Eurofighter Gmbh can’t do anything about that if true.
Then the canard enchainé is a well known french news paper which is famous for digging “affairs”. That being said they are often to quick and most cases fades away. I doubt that this polemic will rise. especially when they are mixing “all inclusive costs “with years decades of R&D with the price the indian will get which is not very serious.
Besides in Switzerland rafale offer was cheaper even with the F3+ standard. With the revised bid it was only 6% more expensive per unit than the gripen.
One thing that some seems to forget is that the last version of the evaluation is part of a controversy.
An inquiry was officially opened after leaks from swiss military that the scores were changed at the last moment to allow the gripen to meet the minimum criteria.
Some should understand that this is a free forum…As long as it remains on topic and with a minimum courtesy. If you don’t like the tone there is nothing we can do for you.
As far as the gripen choice is concerned there is currently a controversy in Switzerland so it is perfectly legitimate to discuss this point. Like it or not.
As far as the respective performances are concerned please refer to the evaluation and comments from Mauer and Gygax that told themselves that you cannot always afford the best plane.
Time will tell,
I remind you that there is an investigation going on and that accusations were made that the mark for the gripen were arbitrary changed to make it pass the minimum requirements. Armaswiss is said to be pretty disappointed…Hence the leaks
As for Gygax he certainly does not want to lose a well paid job so he is not totally free in the way he express himself. That does not mean he has not good reasons just that once the politics have decided he must remain at the right place. He would have found other positive arguments if it were the rafale or typhoon to justify it.
Thats pretty sure when you start from the gripen C/D.
That being said they must have given points for the 2015 version in the second phase. The first phase should have been pretty stringent. But hey ! they praised rafale PESA…So not even the AESA rafale was considered in the first stage.
Do we know if the uncertainty factor was weighted on performance measures ? Or does it comes afterward ?
Still it seems that this explanation is not enough to calm the criticism.
Funny that we had the same feeling/thoughts with nic…I didn’t read him before.
Your explanation seems coherent but is there a source to corroborate that ? I might have missed something sincerely. I fear that your explanation is more something that would suit you rather than something actually verified.
I say this because I find strange that despite what you claim it seems that there is still a strong embarrassment in switzerland about the gripen choice.
If it was just a matter of weighting “uncertainty” and that now in 2011/2012 we have a better understanding of the gripen NG development then it would not be hard to make this point and the media/subcommittee folks and other military would not make such a controversy.
Why reconsider the rafale then ? And why saying that we can make a cross on the gripen ?
I would like to tend a mirror to those complaining…It seems it is their only way to avoid coming with arguments.
Lets not be hypocrite : the charm of this forum is to debate one aircraft vs another etc and going in those rents. What I like here is that you can do so without insulting like on the WAAF. All in all passionate discussion but with a minimum of courtesy.
If you don’t like debates you can go in a “news” forum like those on mp which are excellent in their own category or your own aircraft forum to be sure to remain with people with the same opinion as you.
Some seems so disappointed that even when you come with some “material” like articles they are complaining and accusing you about all villeny.
Let’s face it : the news is hot currently with MMRCA and switzerland. So it is perfectly normal that the temperature rises a little bit in this forum. I must say I don’t really like the attitude of those who want to stand above the crowd and give good and bad point and tell others how to behave…As long as their is no insults there is nothing to worry about : this is just internet ! I notice that this trend have gone up sharply from those who are falling short of arguments because the news does not fit their view.
Perhaps I have missed something but from the evaluation :
1) On purely operational suitability the gripen failed in every category even with the improved version. Usually the consensus is that price is an important factor but you have to meet the minimum performance requirements at least.
2) Dassault’s new offer was with a rafale with only a 6% higher price tag than the gripen. I know than the gripen is cheaper to run and that they have lower their prices but switzeland is a rich country. If they have the will they can perfectly run the rafale.
For Yvan Perrin, a member of the subcommittee charged with investigating the evaluation of the three aircraft, the conclusion is already drawn: “We can already make a cross on the Gripen,” he told the “Morning.” If this happens, the Rafale, led the pack test and industrial offsets, has a chance to be back in the saddle. Faced with the Eurofighter, it will not hurt to take advantage of being cheaper, as New Delhi was calculated. Unless Switzerland decides to start from scratch.
Combat Aircraft: Switzerland ready to consider a new offer from Dassault
20mn/ Feb 14Switzerland is willing to consider a new concrete offer from Dassault Aviation if the French aircraft manufacturer submits it as part of the tender for the renewal of its fighter jets , said Tuesday the Swiss Defence Minister.
“We asked the French group to submit a really practical offer,” said Ueli Maurer at a conference Tuesday.
The Federal Department of Defence was responding to the Sunday papers for which the Gripen fighter aircraft from Sweden’s Saab, chosen by the government, would not meet the minimum standards defined by the Swiss army.
A spokesman for the Defense Ministry had said in late January that Switzerland had not received new offer from Dassault, which would however be prepared according to the press to quote a price lower than the Gripen to sell its Rafale.

interesting that the rafale offered better Detection, Identification and Acquisition than the Typhoon after all we have heard about its radar.
It is a bit behind the typhoon in engagement certainly due to the shorter range of the mica vs the amram. The typhoon offer better kinematics as expected.
But overall the rafale was deemed more efficient in the AtA role.

PDF on rafale simulator from SOGITEC
Apparently Sogitec is the final integrator of typhoon simulator as well…I didn’t know that a dassault subsidiary was working so directly for the typhoon program.
UAE rafales seems to be in the pipe…
Rafale fighter deal ‘is back on’
The National UAE, feb 6Talks were believed to have stalled last year when Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, said the planes’ French maker, Dassault Aviation, had proposed “uncompetitive and impractical” terms.
But Maj Gen Khalid Al Buainnain, former commander of the Air Force and Air Defence, said: “Discussions never stopped.”
Gen Al Buainnain, is also chairman of Baynuna Group, an Abu Dhabi company that has a joint venture with Dassault to “transfer technology know-how, services and products” in the UAE and abroad.
“The technical and financial and contractual discussions have been completely finished. We’re … working out how we can smooth out this contract.

Rafale M for indian Navy ?
http://indiastrategic.in/topstories1304_Indian_Navy_to_have_100_jets.htm
There was an article which said that after the bids were opened, if the difference between the two offers was more than 5% (if i’m not mistaken), the choice would be faster.
Indeed I remember know.
