I really enjoyed this video. Thanks.
I noticed that the day first prototype flew.
It gives the design extra sporty and aggressive look for the fighter that it is.
NIce move Sukhoi I say 🙂
Nice!
I cannot wait to see those (whatever the hell they are) wing-root bays OPEN!!!. And hopefully launch something AA.
I wish. My guess most likely it will be Pantsir systems by 2015. Long range to follow as replacements for current systems. Its anyone’s guess right now. I think they will focus mostly on new wings as they need to patrol the skies, as right now Serbian AF is pretty crippled, and incapable.
Yes, the loan is approved. I assume we will hear some decisions on specifics equipment soon.
I have feeling Mig-29 service center in Serbian factory Moma is going to be a good thing. Mig CEO is obviously pushing for it as well. That can help not only Serbian credit for new Migs and SA systems, but help the economy, and make new big step in aeronautics field in the country.
Some news finally:
– So No More Mig-29M/M2 designation to cut the confusion according to Sergei Sergeyevich Korotkov, CEO “MiG” in an interview for Politika
– He also states that all will have same radar ! Thats very interesting, and confusing.
– The only designation now is Mig-35. I wander how different variants will be labeled.
– Syrian Mig-35s are not going to Serbia nor anyone just yet. They are reserved for Syria. I guess symbolic gesture at this time …imo
– He is also saying that RUAF cancelling Mig-35 order is BS.

I think, if Soviets had Falklands before the square of, they would have had a naval force to defend it as well. Simple as that. Meaning 3-4 Aircraft carrier groups ready to deploy/defend/attack their far reaching colonies and other interests. Just like UK had. Instead, Soviet Union had focus on defending mainland, and interests in bordering regions, and having ability to blow up USA and the rest of the earth as a deterrent.
Not at all focusing on fighting smaller limited wars far from home.
If they went to defend Falklands the way they were then instead of UK, it would be something like thobbes said, probably.
I like the “what if” idea though. Maybe someone can tell us a more specific Soviet ability in Yak-38 numbers and armament it would actually use equivalent to what Harriers did. Would Soviet naval force be more vulnerable to Argentinian anti-ship missiles?
i agree,
would love to see “superfulcrum” in this scheme. Specially with Serbian AF markings 🙂
I’m glad pilots are ok. I’m not too sorry about the plane. Or any bomber for that matter..
any reports on engine or system failures yet?
Why is the 1.44 included in this? It’s not a stealth fighter. Besides….

… gentlemen, this competition is OVER!!!
I still don’t understand what the heck Iran’s announcement about this mockup was supposed to do. I would love to find oft who insisted/authorised this “news break” in Iran. Must have been Ahmadinejad’s orders. Makes no sense.
looks a bit like Mig-37 Ferret.
still, YF-23 wins by long margine! Even more so for being 25 year old design and still the best damn looking stealth plane ever!
If China, USA, or Russia rolled out such plane tomorrow, all of us here on the forum would poop our pants. Period!
Second place for me is Pak-Fa, with many similar lines as YF-23.
Hi All,
Here you are then how about this little polish number intended as an attack aircraft but cancelled in 1994.Me thinks it would have been quite a nippy little mover.
Yes, I remember “Skorpion” from old “Aerosvet” magazines i used to read back them. Although a bit post cold war, but not too far from it. I had my hopes this was going to evolve into a first modern “eastern european” indigenous attack airplane. The all moving wings and engines that resemble sr-71 were super impressive. I could not wrap my head arround if it was not too small/short or even able to carry any weapons. It just looked too small. Cockpit and engines with little bit of wings 🙂

thanks for the video!
I don’t mean to be rude by saying this, but what is the point of this thread ?
Its more of a Japan airforce log of every accident including the smallest ones about blown tires to a dropped piece of a net.
Also, no one is having any discussion ! Only Don Chun is posting logged date for future reference.
seems to me that this should be a separate dedicated web page for people who need this info instead of a forum topic. But I’m sure it is all copied from a Japanese web page anyway.
Am I the only one that doesn’t get this thread?
Hi All,
Bager1968 I stand corrected 🙂 here’s one I liked but before you say anything, can this be considered ? when you say cold war is that just between West and East if so the following will not count I fear but still a good aircraft that should have been allowed to go into production.Geoff.:D
I wish title of this thread can be changed now even thou its like 8 years old. It should say “Cool Cold war era designs that didn’t make it”
Lavi was amazing little venture. It could have been more successful than F-16 in exports IMO.
The Convair efforts at Hypersonics give me massive pause for thought……

and all of the other things they thought they might be able to pull off by the early 1960s: http://www.codeonemagazine.com/article.html?item_id=92
its all so 1980s/90s
These are extremely impressive designs!

Don’t think anyone has mentioned the YB-49

YB-49 still scares me when i look at it. Wasn’t it dropping nukes on aliens in “War of the Worlds” the original movie?
