Anybody know what’s happened at Southend today ? (Sun 26th)
(Airport closed mid-day until aircraft is moved.)

A LIGHT aircraft crash landed on Southend Airport at lunchtime but there are no reports of any injuries or fire.

Firefighters were called from Southend and Leigh and they were joined by retained firefighters from Rochford, Shoeburyness and Hawkwell at the airport.

However, Essex County Fire and Rescue Service have confirmed its fire crews attendance was a standard procedure and airport’s own firefighters dealt with the incident alone.

Passengers had disembarked from Cessna plane before any firecrews reached the stricken aircraft on the runway and the incident was over by 1.20pm.

Chinook (vortex 531) over Rayleigh at 9:40am. Headed towards Southend Airport, then to Bradwell power station.

Nice shooting soldier! Those and deck chairs should be banned from airshows, at least from the front-line, oh and the chav encampments of around ten people complete with picnic hampers to feed a million and a radio blaring out.
I’m kind of with the festival organisers on this one.

Yes, I can see their point too. It’s something you used to see at Mildenhall, and no doubt every other major airshow ?
A family setting up camp on the display line, complete with wind breaks, blankets, picnic hampers, sun beds etc.

I won’t even mention those with step ladders (oops I just did :D)

From a purely selfish point of view I would like the following:-

Good exit from the car park. The getting in isn’t a problem as most people turn up at an airshow between 0800 and 1300. But getting out….90% will go at once. You can have the best show going, but if the only thing people on the forums are complain about is the getting out, then you’ve lost !!!

I agree. I remember going to an end of season display at Duxford some years ago. Plenty of people helping you to park and take your money. When it was time to go………..there was nobody helping with the traffic.

This is the sort of thing that people remember.

With any event, you are going to need huge numbers of volunteers to help with all sorts of things. Not to mention the Health and Safety requirements, and insurances. I certainly don’t envy anyone organising a display.

My brother-in-law has some tales to tell of Jackie Moggridge, when she was at
Channel Airways. By all accounts she was a real character.
