Complete longshot and could have been a dream but does anyone remember a large formation of helicopters, maybe 20 or more, possibly Whirlwinds or Wessex over Shoebury? It would have been on a Thursday in the summer holidays in the mid seventies…

I don’t remember that, but may it have been something to do with the Queen’s Silver Jubillee celebrations ?
I know I was working at Hatfield Peverell at the time and saw a big formation of RAF planes fly over. A practice I seem to remember.

Last Monday the 6th, saw two fighters west bound, just to the north of Chelmsford, at low level around 11am (ish)
Possibly Typhoons or F-16s (I was some way away)

Channel Airways DC4 G-ARYY.

I think I have a photo somewhere of YY turning around at the end of 06, getting ready to take off.
Those were the days. I spent many an hour sat in the observation area, in my early teens.

Did anyone here work for Channel Airways ?, my sister worked as a stewardess there for a while, and met her future husband, who also worked there for many years.

I was also a member of 1476 sqdn ATC (Rayleigh)
I remember when the Stirling first flew in. It was parked near the railway line, and we were helping to remove the temporary civil registration from the rear fuselage.
