I think Blue Steel was the nuclear deterrent in which case it would be one weapon per aircraft.
My money is on a ‘sudden miracle’
Mine too!
It’s a catch 22 situation really. I think the project really needs to fail so that the current management step aside, but then if it were to fail, I think the chances of re starting are slim to nil. So maybe we should just hope that she has a good start to the season and Plemming leaves just after another victorious Waddington!
Has the engine returned yet?
can’t wait for this to take to the skies. Must have had that engine in the US for 4-5 years now?
I think it’s more like 10 Years! PM inbound!
Wanted, £500,000 to keep Vulcan bomber in the air !!! have till friday this week to secure funds. This was reported on 10 o’clock new tonight.
Steve
Can see it online here… http://www.itv.com/news
Hi Ritch,
Did you get any photos of XS177 that you can share with us?
I cant believe that this place is on my doorstep, and I haven’t bothered to visit! I shall make a point of popping down!
But refuses, or is unable, to provide any supporting evidence.
The point I’m trying to make is this:- Where is your supporting evidence? To be fair, you were asked for it, but simply turned the situation back to Chox and said it’s up to him. You’re also making claims and surly you should therefore provide your supporting evidence?
Personally I think the Vulcan did play a major role in the Falklands… There is a lot more to war than just dropping bombs, and you cant measure success on that alone. Many argue that the Dambusters didn’t play a major role, but the boost in morale alone was major, and that is all part of warfare, no matter when period of time you’re talking about. My evidence to support that… Nothing other than my own discussions with my father (ex Vulcan aircrew!), and reading the odd book!
VX927 – I think if you post anything on an internet forum expect it to be challenged. This is a feature of any kind of forum – indeed any kind of discussion . As with anything it’s handy if you can back it up with any kind of documentation – anything else is the supposition.
On numerous occasions I have seen people storm out of forums because they believe they are been treated unfairly or don’t like the fact that people don’t agree with them . Enter any forum at your own risk – however the standards you apply to your conversations should also refect on what you choose to say about those who don’t post or are not alive to reply.
Therefore in essence if you prepared to post a commonly held view – back it up when people ask you to justify it.
I couldn’t agree more with you.
post a load of bollox and you’ll get challenged
Moggy, I would argue that 90% of what has been posted on the 558 thread is “a load of bollox”… The issue isn’t with the challenge, it’s with the way the challenge is delivered.
I must say, I dont know Chox… I’ve never met the guy… Couldn’t tell him from Adam, but it does seem that no matter what he writes on this thread, he gets slated for it. I’m almost inclined to think that if he suddenly had a change of heart, and said 558 should remain the UK no matter what, then certainly some of the people on here would change their position and say send her to the States!
The fact is that Chox has done considerable research into the subject, and merely asked you to formally present your counter argument. I’m no moderator, but I dont see anything too wrong with that.
Back onto subject… £400,000 in 4 days or the puppy gets it! Thank god… Maybe another month of dissecting the who, what, where and when’s and then we can put 558 to bed!!! Personally, I think TVOC are sat on the money, and will pull off an 11hr miracle… £600,000. There’ no way they wont take advantage of the £600k, and I’m sure they will find the remainder… Or extend the time!
Thats great. Thank you.
Tim, I think you’re right. I should have said Normandy veteran rather that D-Day veteran. As for her owner… She has changed hands recently! Not for me to say on here where she has gone but I can say it’s a good home, and she’ll be restored to flying condition once more!
???
The Enola Gay was never a civilian aircraft.
Are you refering to the CAF’s Fifi?
No idea… I mas merely drawing reference to FMK.6JOHN’s earlier post.
Well done guys for all those pledges on the 24Hr Scramble. I think you exceeded all our expectations.
Surely ‘Enola Gay’ is a fine example that the FAA was happy to allow a ‘nuclear capable’ bomber to fly around the good old US of A in private ownership??.
John.
Haven’t times changed considerably since Enola Gay last graced our skies?
Having said that, there is already a considerable amount of fire power flying in civilian hands in the good old USofA ranging from Mig23’s to JP’s. I’m sure some of the are equally as potent as a Vulcan, if not more so?
Joking aside, I’ve not been for some time now, but I’m told it’s merely a shadow of it’s former self, and not that good. Why not stop there for a drink and then go on the the pub in Faldingworth… Fantastic food, and a nice memorial (all be it VERY small) to 300 (polish) squadron on the wall. I say memorial, it’s little more than a couple of small parts, but you’ll be welcomed, and served great food!… And it wont cost a bomb either 😀 Sorry, couldn’t resist that last part!
VX927,
As I read that post, I take it the Press Office was implying given the past history of the project, it will be some time, like 6 months, before we the public actually see the benefits of that work and actually believe that things have changed for the better – not that it will take such time to effect.
Also, at the recent Members Day, it was mentioned Michael Trotter, now in charge of enterprises for the Trust, had secured over £800,000 in sponsorship in the last 18 months alone.
As well as networking in Aviation and Corporate circles, I see that as the roll the Trust play over and above that of fundraising by the club.
FiveFiveEight
Mmm, Improving public relations could be done over night… it doesn’t take 6 months. Plemming knows that this thread exists, yet he refuses to come on here and answer any of the questions that have been posed to him. He refuses to reply to e-mails, he even refuses to take up offers of assistance. Fundraising is not the role of the club, it’s the role of TVOC. Yes, the club can help, but Plemming wants to stop mixing it in the corporate circles, and start with plan B… Plan A certainly isn’t working
VX,
He has already explained he cannot and will not answer questions on the forum. Please either pm him for contact info of whomever could anser your questions ok?
Blind questions Peter… I know I wont get an answer… I’m just thinking out loud. You never know… Dr Plemming might just see my post and feel compelled to answer… Then again… probably not!
558PressOffice,
Thats an interesting post. Thank you. I wasn’t aware of all that. However, it does pose one HUGE question… You’re just a devoted club member, and so far all the activities you’ve told us about have been sorted by devoted club members… Which begs the question what exactly are TVOC does to raise money?
Also, why do we have to wait 6/9 month before things improve, and why of why did it take 6 months for TVOC to agree to you posting? Are TVOC completely and utterly stupid? Someone wants to spread the word on fund raising activities and it takes 6 months to get approved.
Does Plemming know that TVOC’s silences is doing the project more harm than any other single factor?
I give up… I’m going for a beer!
