    Hi,

Love these photos, to me this is what aviation is all about, a wonderful old aircraft, low autumn sunshine, and a birds-eye view of the glories of the English countryside.

    Many thanks Steve.

I live in Luton and know a great many Muslims, all decent chaps/chapesses and preferable to the American Baptist Christians anyday. More moral than the C of E and when you talk to them their religion makes far more sense.

So I too would tend to agree with Roscoria and would go further and say that if moderate Islam became the de-facto religion of Western Europe then even I as a pagan would welcome such a developement.

    Mosque of Engalnd anyone?

    Steve.

    Hi Tomcat,

Is the Battle going to be an airworthy or static restoration?

    Here’s hoping, Steve.

This story happened in the late 80’s when mainframe computers still had to be kept in rooms with controlled temprature and hummidity……

The company I worked for at the time had a large warehouse that was reputed to be haunted, to the point where people wouldn’t enter it alone late at night. The computer room was upstairs and the computer operators would work until ten at night. One of thier weekly jobs was to check and change the record sheet on the ‘barograph’ that recorded the environmental conditions in the computer room. The problem was that there would be sudden unexplained drops in temprature to around freezing lasting perhaps a couple of minutes. The operators were insistent that this was the ‘ghost.’

I however thought it far more likely that it was the barograph and so arranged to have it changed. Same problem on the replacement, so we brought in a third instrument and ran it in parallel with both the others – and they all recorded identical temprature drops. So did we have a ghost……..you decide.

Phantom II; their attitudes will change if people make the effort to try to empathise with them. Yes its a long ride, and you won’t get everyone on board but if you can get one average arab/mulslim in the street to ‘like’ you as an American and an individual, you will have done your bit. And who knows you might even make a friend!

I don’t remember who said this but ‘look after you friends and your friends will look after you, look after your enimies and they will be friends tomorrow.’ It might not work with some extremists, but certainly works on nordinary people.

Also remember life is a journey, and that as you grow older and build up experience so you will find your attitudes will change, and one day I hope you will understand that little things like the ‘feet’ do matter to people – even if you can’t see the reason or the point.

Hawker Hunter by long way, then the DH Comet and in third place Concorde. Although I have to say that the F104 is the most exciting looking of all jet aircraft, looking as if its just escaped from an episode of Flash Gordon.

Phantom II; you ask ‘I apply the same thing to the Arabic Muslims in question. Why should I ever care what they think about me?’

Simply if you go to the middle east for what ever reason you will be effectivelly acting as a kind of an ‘ambasador’ for western culture, and will help to affect the attitudes of the population to the West. Create a good impression and you will help to defuse what Jack Straw this norning called a ‘dire situation,’ a bad impression will only exasperate the conflict.

The same goes for why you should care what the other forumites think of you; because with growing anti-Americanism in Europe, a positive impression from you can only improve America’s image over here.

I know you may well feel that you are only one person and that the impact you have upon our attitudes may be inconsequential; but if you impress say six of us – that’s a goog thing right? Now if a million other US citizens do the same that’s six million of us influenced to be more sympathetic to the USA. Its called people power.

    Steve.

PS. On the subject of ‘dangley feet,’ in many cultures picking your nose in public, isn’t considered to be a faux-pas and such peoples can’t understand why we find it affensive. Then of course in many tribal cultures the women go topless, now thats something that both many Christians and Muslims would find hightly offensive. So at the end of the day please remember such things depended upon culural perspective, and when in Rome do as the Romans.

    Hi,

I think you would need to look at the Goods and Services act. As as far as I’m aware a contract can not overide or denude you of any statatory rights you may have under this act or any other acts apertaining.

Trading standards should be able to advise, or perhaps there’s someone else on the forum who might be better qualified to advise.

    Regards Steve.
