As an aside; does anyone know how many Wasp and/or Scouts remain airworthy?
Thanks Steve.
Lets hope no one falls in the water then……
When it comes to military airfields in the UK can I recomend the Action Stations series of books, from PSL, which are completely indespensible.
Steve
This for me is one of the years highlights – I’ll be there £60 in hand and I think I’ll go for …….. THE DRAGON!
What an opportunity.
Steve.
Some one said on here that the leaflet for this years Legends had a picture of a Hellcat and a Zero on it; some might it be the Planes of Fame Zero?
Steve.
Sounds to me as if the good old Wessex has quite a following; so questions, are there any plans to get one flying again?
And does anyone have any Wessex ‘porn’ they want to share? (or any other vintage chopper pics).
Steve.
PS. my first chopper flight was lso an ATC trip in an 22sqn AirSea Rescue Wessex, from Valley.
I’ll go for the Wessex too, Steve
When is the Proctor due?
Steve
Hi,
I know from their website one of Atlantques DC6s is up for sale. But is there any chance of the other one becoming available pleasure flying?
Steve
Lets face it, some of the key qualities that make aircraft great are longevity, number produced and adaptability, so these ubiquitous Cessnas have to be up there amongst the best.
Steve.
Ah the SAAB 21, I believe I’m right in saying this is the only aircraft ever to serve in both jet and piston powered varients! wierd beastie.
Steve.
Yes there’s on in the fleet Air arm Museum, hope that helps,
Steve.
Just some thoughts. As I have probably said before I am involved with the restoration of a mainline Steam locomotive, which is a financially demanding and daunting project.
Natrually the most often asked question is ‘when wiil she be running again?’ The answer is allways the same she’ll be ready when she’s ready – she’s been under restoration since 1982 and may well take a few more years yet, which is not an uncommon timescale in railway preservation.
It strikes me that the best way to get XM558 back in the sky is providing there is financial transparency (which I’m sure the lottery insists on), to stop the ‘will she be at legands this year?’ approach, accept that work is limited by finances and just let the work continue, donating or not donating as we individually see fit, over the years.
Then one day with a strong tailwind we might well see a triumpth.
Steve.
Mine would be Dunstable Downs sometime in the late 60’s (or very early 70’s?) , all I really remember was the RAF museums replica gunbus flying, and some Sioux helicopters parked at the edge of the glider field.
Steve.
XR537 – Thats just about the best post I’ve read on hear! and as I dont have a six figure sum I’ll now shut up.
