    RE: Cosford Airshow

will be approx the same price as duxford. The flying is more jet oriented and of course there is access to a great museum, I know cosford very well and would say that it was a fine airshow to go to. I think its quite family based and the flown in static park wont be huge, but confined to the jp run up pans that were built two years ago. as long as the weather holds out it should be pretty good. you wont get very much actually landing and taking off for displays because cosfords runway is quite small, only JUST big enough for a herc- as they have had tactical assaults there before for the airshows, and I have been present on the active side of the field when a tornado has made a practice approach so they could squeeze in in an emergency. Most of the dispaly aircraft will be flying out of shawbury, and the last time i was their for the airshow was on duty there and my boss flew in from shawbury in a griffon along with three other aircraft, which made a nice diamond formation approach, I think they were carrying VIPS from shawbury, people like the station commander etc.

if your more local and have been to the museum a few times there are some good viewing points around the back of the airfield, where the crash gate is situated, of course these are for emergency access and walking there on foot from the main road is the only option, DO NOT BLOCK THE ENTRANCE the coppers dont like it!

“heres to you really bad toupee wearer……………..”

I had forgotten about the gun toting mallards- great advert!

there really are quite a few good ads out, the one where the bloke jumps from rooftop to rooftop got me wondering whether he would actually have jumped the gaps and I came to the conclusion that if the the top he was jumping to was low enough then yeah, he prob did jump them.

“and if the weathers not good enough to go out and play games, who cares your all naked…………………”

    RE: Ashley’s Airshow Report

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 07-05-02 AT 10:17 AM (GMT)]I must say it was nice to see the merlin and wokka and puma all winding up together, and it was, I think unique to see a scout and a wasp in the air- for me anyway. needless to say I was up the other end to lots of you guys, however getting there at 0830 gave me plenty of time to do the hangars and I was impressed sort of……..
There was much more in the background that would have been absolutely great to see if the had opened the hangar doors……like two seat hunter, L39 some much better foto’s of a far east harvard, a by the looks of it beautiful T33, a seahawk, you know all those things that were marred by a tatty hind, a tatty GR3 as part of the falklands display, and just moving things about to make more space…. thats a shame and maybe I should go there when there isnt an airshow on- but would it really be any better??? I think it was made up for with the hurricane, and a couple of spitfires without their panels on, and the corsair and thud. nice progress on the beaufighter by the way….also noticed a mosquito wing in one hangar……………..looks good for the p51c and the sea fury too. as for the flying display- it wasnt worth the money in amount but prob was in content. yes I also noticed the av504 making a wonderful attempt at getting back to the field- did you see it just after take off?? it was JUST ABOUT hovering in the air, so a definite well played to those pilots I didnt know it was a called a falling leaf, but the linked side slips were done very well in my opinion, couldnt really miss it to be honest! considering what the jet provost display pilot had in terms of notice I think he excelled himself there(even tho as was said it was last years RNHF sea fury display). the tigercat and the bearcat performed a great display- years since I’ve seen those! in the conditions the breitling display was expertly performed, noticing the amount of work being needed by the P51 to keep up,because of the whiplash effect. those other helicopters that flew with the wokka and the puma were a scout and a wasp two versions of the same family, and again, unique display to me. All in all weather aside, it prob wasnt worth £16 a head to be honest- with only three model stands and few other stands compared to what there has been in the past and at other shows, and the layout of the hangared aircraft………….nevermind duxford. only thing that stopped me from saying I should have gone to bruntingthorpe was the merlin display. I noticed that the aircraft also displayed allot higher and a fair amount further away than at other shows- apart from the blenheims last pass- I have a photo of that pass with the sally b covering most of the foreground, and the blenheim in the middle of the pic- it was certainly the lowest flying of the day. bet he got bollocked for it. I suppose it was good to see the aircraft taxying past after their display on the taxiway in front of me. I’ve been to soo many airshows I’ve managed to filter the commentator out…I think thats a good skill to have.

    RE: UFOs

yes handbag your quite right. it is very hard to tell. however we now have to compete with much higher forms of energy and increasingly more difficult areas of physics to make these breakthroughs. This leads me to believe that the technological and scientific advancement will begin to slow down in areas that deal with particle and qauntum physics. unfortunatley those distances needed to travel and those speeds that are needed to be reached to move anything of practical capacity are basically finite. they are what they are and two centuries i feel wont bring them a great deal closer. so far the only viable way of doing this is to constantly accelerate at quite a low magnitude forever basically.

    RE: UFOs

that technological barrier is the mastery of travelling ON beams of light.

as you guys probably know E=MC^2

which basically says that the faster you go the more energy you have the heavier you weigh. This would make travelling at anything like the speed of light just about impossible unless you are a proton or neutron for example. There are theories around regarding instantaeous travel which are in effect the belief that there are higher dimensions with which you can influence a particle or a number of particles at any distance away from the first particle- making it identical. since they cant do this with one electron or smaller across one room physicists wont be doing this with bananas for quite some time to come. no doubt the ability exists for people to travel our own star system with the practical reality of ion drives and some further work on nuclear reactors(fusion reactors would be a practical possibility about the time they start making space based starship factories), and no doubt that with not a great deal of modification exiting our star system and travelling towards the next wouldnt be impossible but it is highly improbable and impractical. think of the distances and time involved you would have got through a generation by the time you had reached pluto, not really worthwhile. it is still too far fetched for me to believe that we have been visited by beings from another planet. ever watch a film called silent running- that was a good film!! with biospheres on ships!

allot of people have seen allot of things in the past on video and film but………soo many have proved to be fake, and natural phenomena that there are very few left to question now. I would still be willing to bet that what people have seen is man made. although it would appear very foolish to display technology such as this in broad daylight. perhaps the slow release of this information to the general public?? or a malfunctioning shielding system! they could have course,as one of the theories goes, come from the dark side of the moon where the US(why ALWAYS THE US??)has a military science and research base and is ‘studying the human population’ and travels the space lanes between here and the moon at phenomenal speeds lol. not as far fetched as some may think, we have the technology to live on mars…………….

    RE: UFOs

theres lots of stuff about UFO’s etc all pie in the sky(if you’ll excuse the pun) I have read a fair bit and it only makes me believe that its less water tight than a pair of fishnet stockings. A lot of it has to do with the impossibility of the physics of travel at a speed sufficient to cross galaxies for example. or the fact that beings would probably need to be able to pop in and out of dimensions at will and be able to calculate when to do that. what a load of tosh. what I do find intersting tho is……………

the ability to make pyramids with such precision
some of the more outlandish biblical stories
    deformed heads in south america
    the nazca lines
    older texts- some indian

these things describe some interesting events things that arent that well explained- I think the whole ancient egyptian scene is quite fascinating really.

UFO’s could well be a number of things from comets to meteors to clouds to fog to ‘bin lids. Supposedly there are a number of american projects that could account for this one being the aurora another being the TR3 their are others which it is claimed are able to bounce around on the earths magnetic field using potential electromagnetic forces, shielding the occupants from intense accelerationn using an electrostatic field. I believe there are or were at one time about 50 research projects funded through darpa or other DOD agencies concerning anti gravity propulsion! aurora supposedly visited RAF machrihanish(cambeltown airport) on the tip of western scotland an old RAF base made a permament detachment to a SEAL force during the cold war and has brand new facilities whilst described by the RAF as being in a storage state. stealth fighters and bombers are also supposed to have visited there during testing, using the long straight in approach over the sea to avoid detection.

that and there were working flying saucers during the second world war and after leads me to believe that alot of what we see is man made or natural.

I have had a very real dream, but only one and only very short- and it was freaky! i really couldnt decide whether it was real or not!!

I do not understand mass hysteria/visions- thats like saying all of our individual computers- which are not networked or internet capable- get the same virus at the same instant can anyone explain that?

last time I really remember an F4 display was at boscombe down here in the UK and that consisted of four 74 squadron phantoms in a formation dispaly, even taking off in diamond formation- now that was loud!! Last time I saw a flying display of an F4 was a few years back at fairford- an F4F if only i had a scanner!!
