I was promised MAM’s Vixen when it was at Hawarden, but I was beaten to it. Its a rather better example than ours!
Bruce
I feel bad now mate, knowing it was promised to you…………….. no I don’t!! :diablo:
This is a good example of the Vixen and I have seen quite a few in the past and although the outside of ours may of looked like the rest at some point, the interior is superior to the others and thats what I like about her most! She has everything in her including two Avon 208’s and the Scanner is still in the nose. All hydraulic systems are in place and all wiring looms intact (now), I have one hydro union split in the port wing folding jack that is presenting some problems but apart from that, their are no leaks!!
Port side Maxerat has failed and needs attending to and both undercarriage bays are in a bit of a mess (dirt and hydraulic fluid mixed together, mess) so they will need a good seeing to.
Corrosion, just a small area on the s/board rudder base and tiny bits on the underside of the airframe, apart from that, she is as solid as a rock!! Happy dayz!!
Still a lot of work to be done on her though to bring her up to scratch.
lol 😀 😀
I’d have to have the window seat though :p :p
Kev 🙂
Sorry mate, you’d be in the boot with Granny!! 😀
Do you think they should sell there P-39 Airacobra:( 🙁
Fab pictures
James
No I don’t think they should. It’s the only one of it’s kind in this country. It should stay. As should all the Warbirds over here.
Stay!!!!
What about F5 Tigers? The Swiss use theirs to great effect, why not the Snowies!!
Here here………..
Rob, Are you going to repaint the 890 Squadron badge on the tail or change it for 766 Squadron as in the photo I posted earlier? Another thing, can the wings be manually folded and unfolded, or do you have to have all the hydraulic systems functioning for that to happen?
We are keeping her in 890 Sqn. I tried to convince them to allow us to put it in 766 Sqn marking from the pictures you kindly donated but alas……….
The wings need the complete hydraulic system powering up to fold the wings but we are looking at a system for the wings to be operated by hand eventually, that can be done……………….this will not be for some time though yet as we need to follow strict Health and Safety issues at the museum before trying it. 😉
Wow, how much work you have put into this? This is looking fantastic and if you hadn’t posted those photos, many people would not appreciate all this hard work. I wish other museums would look after their aircraft like this
Thankyou.
I have to admit, this is my favourite aircraft at the museum and I love it to bits!!! It’s such a complete aircraft too. Once the painting side is finished, I’m looking forward to tinkering with her, if you know what I mean 😀
Oh come one you have to get her powered up! Honestly she looks in excellent condition even better than the Canberra.. Sry Malcolm ok a close second to the cranberry
Please don’t upset our Chief Engineer Pete 😀 I know what you mean though, she is in a wonderful condition and I look to thrive on that!
Fingers crossed, we’ll have flashing lights galore soon…………..
Could you not replace the glass with modern product?
Cost my friend…..cost……….I know what you mean though.

Could you not remove the glass and replace it completely?
Believe you me Pete, it is an option we have thought of but would be quite expensive.
Another canopy is the best option but they are like rocking horse s**t!
Wow she looks great! is there any efforts to refinish the canopy sometime down the road?
Unfortunatly the canopy is beyond the museums volunteers as it is the layers between the canopy that have faded and to remove them we will need to take it apart so, no, I’m afraid not. Mores the pity 🙁
Here’s the last pictures of WS838
It has been a rewarding finish to the NF14 Meteor at MAM, WS838 looks superb in her new colours and blends in well with all the other recently painted airframes.
I will be posting the last pictures of WS838 here tomorrow and will then be starting to look at a new thread for the Sea Vixen, XN685.
