I’m trying to understand what Circus is saying here in his last para,
…and wonder if he means that the upper rudder section can be ‘set up’ on the torque tube at the rigging stage to be ‘twisted’ sightly from the bottom section, for trim reasons?
.
Pagen,
Thats exactly what I mean, can it be rigged to be off centre on the ground. The real thing I want to know that in the magazine, the (upper) rudder seems to be deflected in every image, even the shots of it flying straight and level (i.e. below the camera aircraft). I appreciate the need for a bit of rudder if the aircraft needs to be photographed at a pleasing angle in a side slip/knife edge, but not for any other reason in those images. The horn balance is waaay over to port…
I’m afraid I have no scanner to clarify what I mean, the image must be on aeroplanes website though.
I think I must be a little odd, because I think the Gannet is a beautiful aeroplane (most Naval aircraft are in my humble opinion), and most people seem to have the opposite opinion! Well done on the move (I wish you’d done it a week before so I could have seen it) but great news none the less.
Regards,
Kurt
I can’t post a link as I’m on my phone but search for the thread entitled “Post your Sea Fury pics” from early 2010. On page 3 are some pics I posted taken by a colleague of mine. Are these the Sea Fury you refer to??
Location at St Athan
It due to be moved to St Atens soon
Does anyone happen to know where at St Athan the Gannet is located? I’m on a course there this week and wouldn’t mind a peek?

Pagen01,
Do you really “hate” those things, or merely dislike them?? I dislike the over use of extremely strong emotions.

Ken,
Surely you will be chastised until your eyes bleed for bringing such corrections to this table! This is the forum whereby you’ll be corrected with venom, so ensure you’re beyond error yourself….

Amazing!
That and the Magister are cracking looking aircraft, good topic Wyvernfan.
Mk21
I don’t want to start a debate on policy but surely the 21 is in the best place possible for now?? I mean if/when 1 Sqn reforms it’s just going to take up valuable space in their hangar and it’d never be as appreciated as much as it would at Coningsby? It’ll just be pushed and pulled around for various photographs and be a bit of a pain for those charged with its upkeep (on ever tightening budget and time constraints). I hope if BBMF have time, space and resources that it can stay put, whatever the eventual outcome (airworthy or not).
What is the history of this aircraft and for how long and where did it serve?
Pilots should not bring in to question any aircraft that has been signed off by a qualified engineer. It will have been checked in accordance with the relevant tech manuals as issued by the manufacturer/design authority. It would not be signed off if it was beyond the standards laid down by the manufacturer.
I recall a great deal being made out of their emergency AD use back when they were new.
Are Hawks still in AD plans?
No. The conversion work is still covered in the tech logs, but that idea was dropped soon after it was mooted.
Bloody hell! Fluffy IS alive….
Don’t forget that the team starts its training phase as soon as the diplay season ends, and normally then spends the best part of seven months getting ‘up to speed’.
Altered for accuracy.
