Done It!
With only one day to do it and a substantially stripped airframe to start with, we moved our Lightning yesterday!
It took 18 hours work for a team of 6 engineers, plus the owner, crane driver and 3 transport drivers.
We had to make one cut (4″ off the Port flap trailing Edge) to satisfy the beaurocrats limitations of how wide a load shoud be.
I’ll try to upload a pic (of the spark shower) but would like to put a small feature forward for our esteemed magazine. How do I do that?
Thank you all for your help.
Cheers,
Kurt (C 6)
A la Balderton!!
Back on subject, C6, who is undertaking the transportation?

Well done Kennet, Naval Aviation ROCKS!

Anyway what colour scheme has your Spitfire got 😀
Fluffy
Oh, you’re a one me old Fluffster! There’s nothing wrong with a minging Spitfire though, and silver looks damn good (on low back Spits in my opinion of course), and my Spit isn’t painted any colour, I don’t own one…apart from the ones at BBMF which I have a percentage share of from being a British Tax Payer……:D:D:D

[QUOTE=dcollins103;1260680]Hi Cees
This is an interesting point that you have raised.
Extinct:
Short Stirling
Exept there are fair chunks of Stirling in the RAFM store….Flyable aircraft have been rebuilt from less!

Hmmm, I think my mind is playing tricks on me. Didn’t the Spitfire that MK356 is meant to represent have a standard rudder (in the only known photograph) as opposed to the broad chord rudder? Also, wasn’t the same aircraft paint stripped rather than painted silver? Surely paint stripping and then a coat of satin varnish to preserve the metalwork would have been a more authentic finish??

:eek::eek::eek:
Right im booking my tickets now thats swung my rope into the FL corner
thanks for posting lets hope sally b get her engine sorted by then, even static would be great but flying 😀
Tsk tsk XH668….3 B-17’s does not constitute the Sea Hawk’s or Canberra’s that you thought would make FL more interesting. Shall I let the show organisers know that they can go ahead and book TFC now?!?:diablo::D
The practise flew over “C6 Towers” today and was most impressive for a load of jets. Of course I stood in my acres and doffed my cap to the fine ladies and gentlemen who put on such a fine show for me, whilst I munched on my cucumber sandwiches. Spiffing.

Nice pics Martyn, thank you for sharing.
Now I really must stop being dewey eyed about Dux and get the car fixed!!:rolleyes:

I read the following on the TFC Blog:
“Sunday saw the Mk. XVIII at the end of the airfield on “max chat” engine runs. Fred in the cockpit managed to hold on to his hair piece whilst Chris and Barry took shots of him doing his impression of a smoky barbecue trying to get the Griffon going. Pictures to follow!
Monday afternoon the Mk. V was taken outside, filled with fuel, and run for the first time after having the engine removed for a deep strip look at the supercharger.
Back in the office brows were being scratched in an effort to get the brain going to answer more questions from the CAA. Which battery fits where, what’s the voltage, are you sure? Oh God!, meeting on Wednesday.
On the phone from the US came Matt to tell us the P-47 had left his workshop, be with us before Legends!
Our old friend B-25 “Grumpy” buzzed by the office window on it’s ferry from North Weald to DX.
The boss comes tomorrow, best get something ready for him to fly. Steve!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! “
Will that mean that The JUG is going to fly at legends?
Definately NOT flying! The fuselage was away to be returned to stock configuration, from the two seat conversion that it had when it was last airworthy.
