It certainly looks like Filton, with the RAF hangars on the left (still extant) looking south east. The white building in the distance is the old Bristol Flying School, which became Fedden House (since demolished, now the Royal Mail sorting office). I am not aware of any association of the type with Filton.

That is very interesting, thanks for the photos Flanker Man. Looking forward to that kit going on sale.
I remember the model display at the 2004 Filton Families Day, I was manning the Bristol Aero Collection stand close to it.
Andy
Any sign of the Brigand there?

Pup frame 188: This was used by an ATC Squadron in Kilmarnock. It was painted up as a Bulldog if I remember, with serial KK327, and I remember seeing it at a Prestwick Air Show (or HMS Gannet Day) in 1983. I don’t have W&R to hand at the moment, so I don’t know if they still have it.

Bolingbroke 9048 progress report – September 2010
As promised, the latest six-monthly progress report on the restoration of Bolingbroke 9048 is now up on the Bristol Aero Collection website.
Just go to http://www.bristolaero.com, and click on the ‘Latest Progress Report …’ link under Bolingbroke 9048 on the lefthand side.
cheers,
Andy
Bravo for the Bristol Aero folk for preserving 9048 as a BCATP “Boly”.
Thanks Canuck. 9048 is an early Bolingbroke, and it operated in the anti-submarine role with 8 Squadron RCAF on the east coast of Canada from November 1941 to January 1942, and then on the west coast and Alaska up to Mid-1943. After that, it joined BCATP as a trainer like most Bolingbrokes. As such, it will be going back into its 8 Squadron markings rather than BCATP. A summary of 9048s history appears on the BAC website at http://www.bristolaero.com/bolingbrokehistory.htm.

This caught my eye

Thanks Moggy,
Coincidentally, I’ve just been emailed the July 2010 Bolingbroke 9048 restoration update, so I will be uploading it to the Bristol Aero Collection website in the next few days.

Why are the BBC obsessed with making things fly? They say this one will, they said that the Le Bourget Concorde will fly a few weeks back… I guess if its not for flight then its not newsworthy, so they change the story to fit. Next they will report a flypast of the Brisfit and the French Concorde in formation…

I’ve been emailed some larger photos (which I won’t publish, as they’re not mine) and it is a fine looking reproduction. 11 Squadron markings, serial A-7288, coded 7.

Can anyone think of something positive for this project? I’m struggling.
I normally keep my comments to myself, but really, who’s idea was this? Its ugly, a huge waste of money that is desperately needed elsewhere, and there is no need for it -as already mentioned. Have you seen how they are going to display the aircraft? It might work for the Science Museum, but it is totally inappropriate for a Battle of Britain Museum.
Since when is Hendon ‘the gateway to London from the rest of England’? It takes me ages to drive around the A406 and local roads. It might be close to the M1, the ‘rest of England’ doesn’t get to London on the M1.
I’m just imagining what £80 million could really do to mark the Battle of Britain…

Does anybody have photos of the cockpit, how complete is it ? If in acceptable condition maybe an access platform could be built to allow visitor to see inside.
Here is a photo I took of the rear cockpit several years ago. The front cockpit currently looks much the same. There is a manufactured instrument panel with some instruments for RH746, which could go inside it. It had an access platform when it was on display with the BAC.

I believe that ownership remains the same. I was just saying that the potential for restoration may be better there, long term – there are still no guarantees it will be restored, as anyone knowing the ownership will understand.

Just thought I’d resurrect this thread to pass on the news that Brigand RH746 has left the Bristol Aero Collection at Kemble. It had been stored out of sight since the BAC moved hangars a few years ago. It has moved to the RAF Museum at Cosford. I don’t know what their plans are, but I would assume that the potential for restoration is much better there.
Andy
If anyone was intending to combine their trip to GVFWE with a visit to the Bristol Aero Collection at Kemble, unfortunately we will be closed this weekend due to unforeseen essential maintenance in the hangar. Any updates on re-opening will be posted on the BAC website at http://www.bristolaero.com.
cheers,
