Just keeping things on track 🙂
Skyskooter: I do have a photo – 1978 it was and my Brownie camera just about did the job, but not very well sadly:

This sadly demonstrates the arrogance of some at VTTS (not all): those with experience, knowledge and good common sense advised against placing XH558 at Doncaster but were shouted down. Too late for navel gazing now I guess, so hopefully the Canberra (and Swift?) can be rescued even if ‘558 is destined for the next Cockpitfest.
:apologetic:
The A4 is the old Bath road: pic above is of an A-4.
Confusing innit?
The Washington is/was at Socorro, NM if memory serves. And one B-29 is still to be accounted for from China Lake. Google Earth search shows one other rather demolished example still on the ranges at the northeast end.
“Looks like P-51 Ferocious Frankie is up for sale https://www.aircraftrestorationcompa…craft-for-sale it will be sad to see her go.”
Go? Shown as still for sale on the ARCO website, so no indications of any move yet.
Mustang51: “…Such a pity about Old Sarum and – Sabrejet, I know what went on with Old Sarum last year and it WAS a family issue so I suggest that you keep you speculation to yourself when you are not in the loop as to what happened. “
Umm…which bit of speculation would that be then?
Cancelled, as was last year’s. Once unfortunate, twice…?
2015’s was very enjoyable and I hope it might be third time lucky next year?
Might be many things but that’s not Waddo. And you’d have to be way inside the perimeter fence to get burnt by anything on take-off there, so I suspect a bit of an urban myth.
So, nobody knows why P-51s always seem to have metal blades then?
Same reason that most other modern aircraft do: strength, ease of manufacture, repairability…it goes on. Strange question – like asking why some aircraft have swept wings.
But note that ORB’s (often compiled by unwilling recording officers) get serial numbers wrong also…
I think it’s worth highlighting that the article says “…If it does develop into a movie, it’ll mark the first time a film has focused on the fight for a few years, looking to chronicle how Britain’s RAF fought Germany’s Luftwaffe for air superiority, resulting in one of the major victories for the allies in the conflict.”
Which does necessarily mean that there will be much aviation content.
…which does necessarily mean that the journo has made a few major assumptions…
Doubt the B-52 will depart Monday: more likely later in the week, but you never know!
Here ya go :eagerness:

I think the RAF 100 promises to be an incredible opportunity to gather WW1, WW2 and more recent types together. In terms of flyers, the inter-war and Cold War types might be a bit thin in the air but maybe not so much on the ground. Plus of course we have honorary RAF squadrons from Norway, Poland, Canada etc to draw on and maybe we can bring together the less often-seen air forces from the Commonwealth too. We also have seen some lovely tribute schemes on foreign military aircraft, so it’s it’ll be interesting to see what comes together in the next 12 months.
Yes there is and yes I did:
