Lefty
594 was coded Y-. I took down several details from his log book years ago. I haven’t run into him for a few years now, so I’m not sure if he’s still with us.. I’ve spent many a day listing to his stories including the ditching. I’ve got a model of 594 waiting for decals on my model bench right know. When done I might try and find him again… Lefty went on to Boscombe down after flying with #3 and flew several interesting types including Axis aircraft.. Had a promising career ahead as a test pilot until the RCAF said no!
Check out the Typhoon Tempest web site (can’t remember the ulr sorry) for a photo of Lefty back then..
Typhoon ditchings
Snapper- Do you have a listing for Typhoons from #3 Sqrd. that ditched. I used to know a “Lefty” Whitman who ditched a Typhoon and he flew for #3. Thanks.. Neil Medcalf
Daz- Any word on if the series will be picked up in Canada? Or at least the DVD released here? Also any chance of you getting your contact to get in touch with me. You know- looking for book info. Thanks- Neil Medcalf
Two seater ID
I belive the two seat Spitfire to be PV202 also. If I remember correctly ML407 still had the Irish Air Corps serial and roundel on the fuselage when Nick Grace bought them both. If anyone has any other photos, I’d love to see more of either of these two at Strathallan. Thanks- Neil Medcalf
Mt-818
Mark 12- It’s very difficult to find these little details out. I would appreciate any help you would care to offer. Thanks .
I have G-AIDN participating in the following-
London Pairs Arch to Arc- 1959- 1 hr 1 min
Panshanger to Cardiff – 1961 –win
Kings Cup Air Race -1961 – fourth
Thruxton- 1960- second in a three lap race
Stuka
Don’t forget the overwing people pods!
MT818 race number
Septic- The race number was worn for IDN’s to participation in the London – Paris (ARch to ARC) Air Race. The Pilot was Viv Bellamy with Billy Butlin as Passenger/ Competitor. I belive this was in 1959.
Dazdaman- I’ll take any and all help anyone wishes to provide. Information, photos, stories, log book entries etc. I would like to uncover more details about all the two seaters in the “limbo times” after conversion and use by the services.
Thanks to all of you- Neil Medcalf
