The AIM 54 Phoneix missle had been fired in 1998 against Iraqi jets, but none hit their targets. Guess too smoky and the Iraq pilot can get alert early and get rid. Heavy missle like the Phoneix orR33/R37 good for attacking stragetic bombers, reconaissance plane in air war, but not good at fighter. Too heavy and too bulky, difficult to manuever!
Iranian pilots scored kills with their AIM-54s, however.
A modernzied R-37, will be called R-37M when/if it enters service. Longer range etc.
Looks like MiG-29K/KUB will have Bars-29.
I thought they might have been Su-24s (hard to tell when they’re in primer and in pieces from a distance) because I couldn’t for the life of me understand what MiG-23s were doing anywhere near a production line.
The R-33 & R-37 have confirmed kills against drones. It’s had no opportunity to be used in combat- but if someone can explain to me how exactly an AGM-86B CALCM will be substantially different from a low-flying drone, I’d like to hear it. Its targets were cruise missiles and bombers. It was never meant for air combat against another fighter.
The R-37 definitely has no opportunity to be used in combat because a) it’s no in service and b) has been superseded by the K-37M.
The metallic finish cut down on weight- camo paint is heavier. I think. Can’t remember where I heard that true-sounding-but-perhaps-spurious nugget.
Mexico makes a lot more sense in this regard, indeed. A factory in the region would do a world of good, and make Mil helicopters even more attractive than they already are (and Ka-60s too?).
As to the Ukraine-American deal, it’s probably related to relatively mundane troop equipment matters; Iraq’s new “army” (it’s a bit lame to be called that, but anyway) is still equipped along Soviet lines.
So true. Hopefully this is just Sukhoi hot air. Vladimir Mikhaylov seems like he doesn’t tolerate much waste, he probably won’t give S-52 the time of day.
Yeah, but how do I know how many airfields are in portland?
What? Mexico building helicopters for Russia? This article is almost certainly wrong.
Ralph E.L. = Rafale
Hi Vympel, have you ever seen a AS-17 ‘Krypton’ carried by the MiG-29? If yes,
it will ask your question.
Good point.
From the Lomac forums, chart of F-22’s coolness compared to other aircraft
ROFLMAO, that’s hilarious …
The all-caps SU and MIG thing drives me nuts too 🙂
