We are rapidly approaching the time where all ASCC/NATO/whatever designations for Soviet equipment are becoming outdated, not to mention extremely cumbersome and non-descriptive in many cases. Frankly, are they even assigning new codes to anything anymore?
Forget SA-N-12, if you’re going to call Kashtan by name (rather than GRISON CADS-N-1 or whatever) and Moskit etc, you might as well call SA-N-12 the proper name of ………………..
It’s Yezh, isn’t it? 😀
Well, if it’s a cruiser size vessel, you could fit many times the number of Moskit SSMs on it than on a destroyer- give you enough missiles to engage an entire fleet if you wanted to (thinking of Kirov BCGN and Slava CG). Where to put them is the problem- it probably wouldn’t be very stealthy, unless they launched like Granit SSMs, which I don’t think Moskit can do.
and the Italian one these look more beautiful than the original Russian ones… 🙁 . Russians need to get thing right else the market for the Yak-130 will be eaten up by their Italian clone …
How does it look better? It’s paint-scheme isn’t as good, and it’s completely unarmed. Otherwise, there’s very little difference.

What kind of GOES sensor is that on the chin? GOES-324?
So does anyone have the speed figures for the actual 7.01 interceptor, rather than the passenger version?
Platan designator pod
The same as that used on the Su-27IB that was supposed to be really accurate?
I take it the Il-38N (N= Novella, domestic version of Sea Dragon) looks the same …
Any idea what kind of engine was supposed to power this “monster” ??? … may the AF-41 ???
Perhaps a pair of the the original MFI powerplant, the Soyuz R-79M turbofan (181.4kN)?
Garry, the Moskit is the SS-N-22. Kh-41 is the air-launched variant of the Moskit.
According to Jane’s, Kh-41 has been tested.
Too bad it’ll never see the light of day. Changing requirements and all that.
Have to admit first I have heard of it too; the 9M96 that is. Where is a current copy of Janes Land-based Air defence when you need one? Mine is a ’95-’96 edition.
The Cruiser Petr Veliky is currently fitted with S-300FM Fort-M which uses the 150km-range 48N6 missile. I wonder if they might consider a further upgrade?
Google, nice post mate.
A further upgrade to whatever the Russian equivalent to the 200km range export 48N6E2 is (48N6/2? 48N6-2?) or to the 40km/120km 9M96 (9M96/9M96-2?,9M96/2? 9M96M?) family? The advantages of the latter being you could carry 4x 120km 9M96 missiles for every one of the 48N6 class- or perhaps a mix and match, like on the S-400.
Alfa.
9M96M? What’s that?
Missiles I know of:
5V55K: 47km. (S-300PT)
5V55R: 75km (S-300PS)
5V55RUD: 90km (S-300PMU)
48N6/48N6E: 150km (S-300PM/S-300PMU1)
48N6E2: 200km (S-300PMU2 ‘Favorit’)
9M96/9M96E: 40km (S-400)
9M96E2: 120km (S-400)
40N6: 400km (S-400)
48N6DM: 150km? (S-400)
Is 9M96M the designation for the Russian version of 9M96E2? I thought that was 9M96/2? Is there a non-export version of 48N6E2?
Finally got my copy of Tupolev Bombers- next time, I’m going air mail.
There is an English version of that future Yak-130 variants page, guys. Just click on the English butto n…
