Any name with ‘cat’ is not allowed: that’s Grumman’s only, and the F-35 is not a Grumman plane.

Unfortunately, if the sanctity of the Grumman nomenclature is maintained, we’ll never see another cat, because Grumman doesn’t exist anymore. Unless Northrop Grumman builds a UCAV or something.

Could the upgrade they got be the Su-22M5 upgrade?

Doubtless the references to Vietnam’s requirements for it’s Su-27 force refer to the Su-27SM/ Su-27SK (Upgrade) aka Su-27SKM.

The best choice for getting more Su-17/22s would be Russia itself- they’d get full standard Su-17M4s/Su-17UM3s, not downspec Su-22s. They’d also have the lowest airframe life, and it fits in perfectly with Russia’s plan to sell back to the manufacturer old, decommissioned aircraft for sale abroad.

I’d get it before I even heard opinions, I’m that desperate for something like it.

It’s existence is not in question. However, it’s right to exist in it’s present, discriminatory form is … debatable. 🙂

Damn, look at that ice break … it’s like that time those Su-24s bombed that ice flow in Siberia to rescue a remote town …

Speculation I’ve read by Bill Sweetman in an Super Hornet-apologist 🙂 article on JED indicates that it may have a new, pulsed rocket motor. Apparently, EMD is due to start soon and finish around 2006, with service entry in 2007. Considering that the AIM-120C-7 also has longer range (among other improvements) and was specifically requested by the Navy, it might be correct.

    What I don’t understand is the designation system … AIM-120A, AIM-120B, AIM-120C, then all of a sudden it’s AIM-120C-4, AIM-120C-5, AIM-120C-6, AIM-120C-7 …

I still don’t know why they just didn’t make the PAK FA out of the MFI. Like, it’s already in prototype form, just stuff it with appropriate avionics and radar, clean it up a bit, give it a pair of AL-41s, and away you go.

Bolkcom played down the chief threat to U.S. dominance of the skies — Russian-made SA-10 and SA-12 surface-to-air missiles. The U.S. armed services have flown more than 400,000 combat sorties since 1991 and lost only 39 combat aircraft — a survival rate of 99.99 percent, he said.

ROFL. I’m sorry, but when have US air units faced SA-10s and SA-12s? Never.

I mentioned in before that in the quick combat part of LOMAC, I wasnt able to pull in behind a Mig-27 despite going way past the g limit at many different airspeeds. There is just something wrong with the physics.

Either that, or your piloting skills need improvement. Killing a MiG-27 can be done with your eyes closed.

Furthermore, the graphics probably don’t look that good to you because you have to have an excellent system to run LO:MAC how it’s meant to be run. The above poor folks screenshots are nothing compared to the screenshots you’ll see on the screenshots page in the LO:MAC general discussion forum. Strike Fighters is just a meaninglesss piece of arcadey light fluff, it’s not a serious simulation by any stretch of the imagination. I’ve seen Strike Fighters screenshots, and sorry, there’s no way it has anything on LO:MAC at full specs whatsoever.

SD-10 doesn’t have the features to be in the very long range category- you either have to be big and fat (AIM-54 and R-33/R-37), or a nice fancy propulsion system, like ramjets.

Even me saying AIM-120C-8 was too generous- it’s probably something Sewer Horror people made up to console the loss of the AIM-54 with the Tomcat.
