    Good afternoon,

Thank you all for your nice comments. Yes, MSR777, there was an Interflug IL-18 present. The Rapid fans flew with this one, a Balkan Tu-154 and three Tarom TU-154s, as you can see on the photograph of the GAF Nomad.

According to Wikipedia, Greenair was founded in 1990 to fly Turkish expatriate workers and tourists from destinations in Germany and Paris, London, Milan and Amsterdam to Turkey. This airline was a join venture with Russian investors and thus used Soviet built aircraft. The first aircraft was the Tupolev Tu-154, followed by the Tupolev Tu-134, which it planned to use on scheduled services between Istanbul and Moscow; but those plans could not be carried out. In December 1994 Green Air ceased operations, but was reactivated in 1995 as Active Air. That venture also went out of business a year later.

    Here are two more photos.

    Good evening,

A few more, this time some slide scans of aircraft with a British connection. The Rotterdam photos were taken on the day of the European Cup Final between Rapid Wien and Everton. Everton won 3-1.

    1. G-APIM: Vickers Viscount 806, British Air Ferries. Rotterdam, May 15th 1985

    2. G-BHNI: Cessna 404, Donington Aviation. Rotterdam, May 15th 1985. This aircraft looked very small in comparison to the Aer Lingus B747-130 EI-BED, which also brought Everton supporters to Rotterdam.

    Good afternoon,

MSR777, the DC8 in the background is N1809E, a DC-8-62. It had Surinam Airways colours, but small Arrow Air titles. It was leased by Surinam Airways to fly the Paramaribo route.

Longshot, the observation deck at Schiphol is still open and it is even free of charge at the moment, the ticket machines don’t operate. During the wintertime it is open from 9am till 5pm and in the summer period from 7am till 8pm.

    Hope this helps.

    Kind regards,

    Peter

I loved the good old days of hybrid and leased 737’s between all the charter carriers. Went on many BY 732’s in various guises including a half painted BY one.

    Good evening,

Here are two hybrid Transavia aircraft.

    1. PH-TSA: Boeing 737-2A3, in Pluna colours; Schiphol May 30th, 1984

The single Cymru Boeing 737-200 was ex Britannia G-BAZI I think that’s the ‘ZU above

The 737 with the blue tail top is almost certainly G-BHWE a Britannia machine leased to British Airtours

    http://www.pbase.com/fstopintl/image/76547947

    Good evening,

Thanks to the above mentioned information of Garry Russell I can confirm
G-BHWE was present the day (April 5th, 1985) the photo was taken. In my notes it says that it had British Airtours titles with Britannia colours.

I also include a photo (sorry for the quality) of G-BAZI of Cymru Airways International at Luton on April 1st, 1985.

    Great shots.
Whats the airline in the background in the british caledonian shot? I think its a B737 tail but it looks partially like the BA landor livery.

I have looked into my notes, but I haven’t found any reference to that particular aircraft. It probably stayed over there during my visit, so the registration was unreadable, sorry.

Another Potez 840 visited, I think only about 3 were built. Love the Viking photos, it was amazing how many Vikings were lying in the corner of airfields in the 1960/70s. Keep the photos coming.

    Good evening,

In total 8 aircraft were built of the Potez 840/841/842 series. The first four were 840s powered by Turboméca Astazou turboprop engines. Then two (841s) were built with P&W Canada PT6A-6 turboprop engines and the last two (842s) were built with modified Astazou turboprop engines.

Musée de l’Air at Le Bourget has Potez 842 F-BNAN, c/n 3. I took this photo from a parking garage on April 1st, 1980. It is now displayed indoors.

There should be a second fuselage, probably somewhere in the Shetlands after a wheels-up landing.

I used to run the Airline History Website almost 15 years ago.
Wardair 707 and 727 at Gatwick circa 1968-69. Amazing that they flew a 727 from Canada to Gatwick! BUIA Herald and C47 in background along with another DanAir Ambassador plane.
    http://i850.photobucket.com/albums/ab64/raggidoll/aviation/WardairCanada721cf-fun707cffanlgw71pgoodearl.jpg

Hallo Sarah…Talking about the Wardair (and other?) 727s flying pax across the Atlantic on OldJets Yahoo Group, it was mentioned by Bob Bogash that Sterling Airways did likewise with the heaviest gross weight 727-200ADVs that Boeing built. Although I haven’t been able to find any photos of Sterling 727s in North America, courtesy of EricFrikke/Leo Larsen the route flown (in the 80s) was Copenhagen-Keflavik-Bangor(Maine)-Miami and the 6 727s used had 7.5tonnes of extra fuel capacity in 3 belly tanks….do you have any pics at all of the Sterling 727s? By 1986 Sterling had DC-8-63s, this one at Las Palmas, I don’t know if they replaced the 727s to Miami

    http://i809.photobucket.com/albums/zz20/A30yoyo/Sterling-DC-8.jpg

    Good afternoon,

    Two additions to this message.
    1. Wardair also flew the Boeing 727 to Schiphol. I saw the CF-FUN on June 4th, 1966, but unfortunately I had no camera with me at the time.
    2. My mother-in-law went on a holiday to Canada in 1983 and took some photos of aircraft for me at Toronto airport after she had boarded her KLM Boeing 747 for her flight home. Among those was this Boeing 727-2J4A of Sterling, OY-SBG. So here is photographic evidence of Sterling using 727s to North America. Not the best quality but I hope of interest all the same.

Once again a small contribution from my side, this time some black and white scans from the late seventies (sorry VeeOne, not much colour this time). Hope you like them.

VeeOne/Peter et al….The Channel ‘gold fin’ scheme was ‘lifted’ from Continental airlines in the USA ,wasn’t it, when Channel bought some of their Viscounts….the Tridents must have been painted with that scheme from the factory…… when did they go bust…1971?.…Mick

    Good afternoon,

According to the book British Independent Airlines since 1946 Volume 2 they appointed a receiver on February 1st, 1972. All pure jet flying ceased on February 15th, 1972 and on February 29th, 1972 all flying came to an end. The last service flown that day was Ostend-Southend with Heron G-APKW.

    Kind regards,

    Peter
