Frankly I do see an end to their ideas.
They will eventually become civilised, have some money, have a Blue Ray and 50 inch TV, drink Coke and eat McCrap. It then dawns on them that they have been drugged by Religious idiots with a chip on their shoulder.

Have you seen any of the research in this field?

Well i was just thinking if our poiliticians wanted the UK forces to be involved in the world than if we make our forces into specialist we could be sent in for those types of jobs.

I’m not sure what you’re aiming at here. Are you suggesting to somehow “upgrade” conventional forces into special operations forces (SOF)?

As I understand it, an army should consist of a range of different types of units providing different capabilities (e.g. infantry, artillery, medical etc.) needed for the entire organisation to function according to the demands put on it. A special ops capability is just one piece of the cake.

if that means killing every last one of them, so be it.

To be honest, I don’t think that idea will get us very far. Do you see an end to their ideas and future recruitment?

I think it’s important to stay optimistic and never give up, but it’s also wise to be realistic. Despite lasting efforts to fight it, the terrorist threat is something we might have to live with for a long time.

Yes. (Unless your going down the melted ice cap route)

    Environmental security

However, I will complain when my country’s military forces is engaged in a war, with no clear objective, and without clear justifications. For me, that is what Afghanistan is all about; there is no clear objective and no exit strategy.

    NATO’s role in Afghanistan

I think Jonesy’s last paragraph contains a point or two as well.

North Korea for example. The terrorist supporting nations are a real threat to global harmony and their leaders and kit will be obliterated.

Hopefully it will never be necessary to go to war against these countries.

I am dead sure, I’m working on a weapon system so good it’s better than a sexual fantasy.

You lost me. Are you trolling or are you just a little on the edge?

This forum is full of people that compare/discuss/photograph wonderful military aeroplanes and ships etc. and most cannot wait to see next years airshows. The very purpose of these platforms is to wipe out enemy equipment and people in the most efficient way possible. More bang for the buck. Is it correct to admire such outstanding technology and then complain when it kills the enemy?

Just as your right to ask that question, the freedom to speak out against the war is a core value of Western democracies. I support the international military presence in Afghanistan, but I think your views on the matter are somewhat dead sure.

I feel that terrorists targeting civilians are a plague which must be dealt with, but are they the most important global threat today?

A complete effort against terrorism requires a number of tools, including military force. What can we do to marginalise the sources of radicalisation in order to reduce the terrorist threat in the future?

I’m no pilot but was that variometer just showing a constant 6 – 8 down all the time.. Didn’t see any evidence of lift.

If you pay close attention to the variometer you may notice some occasional lift, but nothing that lasts. Depending on the wind, I imagine that a few rotors might appear here and there in that area.

I’m not familiar with FAA VFR or rules for ridge flying with gliders. Were the persons in the video enjoying very liberal rules or breaking them?

some kind of public shame and significant punishment is surely called for to stop “minor” crimes which are rife.

I think research indicates that the probability or risk of being caught and convicted has a bigger impact than the degree of punishment.
