North West contingent will be there, though really not sure what any of us will be bringing this year yet!
Jon
Seahawk panel
throttle on there too
In the near future there will probably be a Sea Hawk cockpit on there as well!
Jon
I would have said undercarriage microswitch.
Jon
It’s not a new occurrence – it happened around the time of the Blackpool Vulcan ‘bidding frenzy’ – XM594 was listed by the then owner and it was pulled as it was deemed a ‘weapon’.
Didnt realise Newark tried to sell their Tin Triangle at the same time?! :diablo::p
The Blackpool Vulcan being XL391.
Jon
It proves there is still hidden treasure on the internet.
Or a well known forum (North West Air News) if you live round these parts!
Here is a link to the “EGGP History and Memories” bit this piece on Starways resides in – http://derbosoft.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=history

Tornado? What’s one of those?:D
Meccano for grown ups isnt it? 😛
Jon
Having been one of the chaps up there today getting soaked can add –
Canberra and Whirlwind are apparently going to Athens, Greece.
Complete Vamp was XK637. The new owner initially abandoned the wings etc but has since had a rethink and collecting in the next few days.
Jon
You might also like to mention, Jon, that we tried to remove the propeller from the engine shaft too so that a new spinner backplate could be fitted.
A five-ton bearing puller didn’t touch it, presumably due to corrosion on the shaft and/or seating, so we put it all back together again and resigned ourselves to resorting to plan B – to cut the backplate in two and fit it that way.
The prop had been re-fitted previously over twenty years ago and the pressure dome was not replaced so allowing the salt-laden sea air at Caernarvon to find its way inside the hub and sieze things up.
The whole prop hub assembly has now been liberally covered in Waxoyl, inside and out, so that things won’t get any worse. The replacement spinner should keep the worst of the weather out after that.
Overall, the aircraft is looking good and it is a tribute to the continuing efforts of the SAHG members who have been working on it.
Anon.
Sorry for my omission 😮
Jon
Got told off by the lads at the weekend for not posting update pictures recently so here are some from Saturday 🙂
Picture 1 – Moments after rudder was refitted. Scary to think over 3 years have passed since I removed it!
Picture 2 – a general shot taken at the end of the day – looking like a proper plane again isnt it 🙂
Picture 3 – the completed strap repair over the fuselage cut.
Still looking for some nose wheels by the way folks 😀
Jon
I agree, the Bristol Hercules (Lot 19) looks post-war to me; the reduction gear (Lot 20) is also Hercules. Does anybody know what these two went for?
Lot 19 was a Bristol Freighter motor from memory and sold for £180, whilst lot 20 went for £170 (all prices before commission).
Jon
Looking over on the Cockpitfest forum, it would appear that Neil McCarthy bought one of the Vampires.
Bruce
That was the one I knew 🙂
Jon
Well if my commission bid (no auctioneer confirmation yet) was used then the Heinz 57 variety Link is coming south.
Looking at the piccys before the auction the lot was not a dismantled D4 but was an incomplete mix of parts from almost every type produced so I treated it as several boxes of bits. A sort through to see how much D4 is present then assess routes to functionality.
Ross
If you are the winner of this item Ross, then when you collect have a look in the storeroom by the loading bay. We had a look in there with museum staff yeserday whilst hunting for something else and found some more link parts like a blower.
Do we know who bought the Vampires?
Bruce
Turns out I knew the new owner of XD425 as met him a while later crawling over his new acquisition 🙂 No idea on XK637 though.
Jon

Sorry to have to correct you Jon – It was me who reported it – It was a World War 1? prismatic Verner pattern compass – though they left the case for it – The German wrist compass was still in the lot. I noted it at about 9:30 and went back to check the date on it at about 10:15 & it had gone – checked the boxes either side as have found people slip items into the box they want to bid on before – from when I worked in an auction rooms, but no it was gone 🙁
Thanks Pete for answering Elliott’s query.
Thanks Nick – I wasnt paying full attention when it was mentioned by the auctioneer. So hedged my bets on which one it was with the hope I would be corrected (which I have been 🙂 ) if wrong.
Jon
So who is going? Is anyone aware of particular interest in the K88 airship gondola and the Canberra?
Title might still be with Pensacola for the gondola.
K88 was withdrawn from the auction due to the ongoing issue of ownership.
Meanwhile, in addtion to what has been mentioned already a smattering of the prices some other things realised today (hammer down prices so dont forget to addthe 21% buyers premium!) –
Military Flea – £620
Link Trainer – £150
Skyship 500 – £80
Two Anson type seats – £310
Cut away Avon – £900
Sycamore Leonides – £1220
R101 Airship Ladders – £30
I did jot down the prices of all the aviation lots if people want other prices.
All in an interesting day and came away with one or two things myself.
Sadly though, there was a theft during the viewing prior to the auction. If I noted it down correctly, some light fingered individual pocketed a WW2 German aircrew wrist compass…………. 😡
