Indeed 🙂
Must say cant wait to see F-BGNX repainted – best scheme to ever go on a Comet in my opnion. What is she like inside these days?
Jon
One survived (nearly)….bit faded….unbelievably they’ve stripped the paint off the front end now!

The whole thing has been stripped in advance of remedial work and a complete repaint.
Also whats wrong with F-BGNZ/G-APAS/XM823 at Cosford – thats a complete Mk1 ex Air France machine 😉
Jon
Does anything from those two still exist?
Quoted from – http://www.geocities.com/capecanaveral/lab/8803/cometpic.htm
Comet Mk1A 5301
“One of two Mk1As operated by the RCAF. The nose section of this fine craft is intact and preserved at the National Aviation Museum Ottawa, Canada.”

Thanks for the tip Jon. i was trying to find pictures of them in service with the airline to get a pictorial history of their service.
Just found their catalogue and yes there is a Comet book in this series for £8.95 assuming they have any left in stock.
Jon
there aren’t that many colour pictures of the Comet 1, i have been trying to track down some of the Air France Comets without much luck.
Have you tried The Aviation Hobby Shop? Might be a Comet book in their Airlines and Airliners range. I bought the Viscount one a while back and that has a lovely colour shot of an Air France Vicky.

Big problem is taking one apart. Can anyone say they have ever seen one dismantled….? I know one guy who has and but that was on the production line!
A few of us investigated the feasibility of taking a 748 apart and there is no easy way having poured over countless drawings and documentation. Each wing has huge doubler plates at the root top and bottom with a couple of thousand rivets in, then with those off you have a small underwing access panel (approx 18″) through which to get in side and take out the 250+ bolts (8 bolts per stringer and something like 32 of them) assuming you can even reach them. And that is before you consider the cost of it all – support frames, cranes, manpower etc etc.
In the end our feeling was the best bet is surgically cut it into roadable sections then plate it all back together at a later date. Though that then creates a whole heap of new issues as you then have to put the structural integrity back in….
All that said if someone wants to give us a big pot of cash, we will happily try to get one for Speke 😀
Jon
Middle one is Victor.
(Duff link removed 😉 )
Others need more thought…..
Jon
Looks similar to the seat recently discussed here, Stirling Mk V?
Cheers

Indeed!

Looking through the list there is a mix of aircraft people own privately and aircraft people work on. So we have things like the Canberra at Gatwick Aircraft Museum, the F86 at NEAM (though notice that has dropped off more recent lists now) and all the aircraft at Newcastle Tech College. Which I hasten to add I have absolutley no problem with was just seeking clarification 😀 Would also mean I can add more entires :diablo:
Jon
Just to check what is the qualifyinng criteria for this?
I thought it was projects that were owned by individuals and not stuff in museums yet looking through the list that doesnt appear to be the case.
Jon

I know the current owner wants to keep his plans private and he has the absolute right to have it like that.
But are there any pics about at the time of the recovery of both LA564 and LA546? Will this be against the wishes of the current owner? I have never seen any pics of these airframes and they are unique as well.:rolleyes:Cheers
Cees
Ah but there is one on here! Posted about a month ago by Mark12 showing LA564 amongst others 🙂 Not sure when the actual picture dates from though.
Jon

Hi Jon,
Thanks – I had a feeling that it might be – but then thought Dutch – Czech – who cares – its been a long time to remember!!
Cheers Brian.
Oh was more just an observation than anything 🙂 I recognised the DU code straight away given 312’s association with Speke.
Jon
Doubt it helps but the paint job is 312 (Czech) Squadron.
