I use a foundry at the back of the industrial estate and have got to take a few bits over in the next week or so so will have a look then.
Jon
Can anyone pinpoint whereabouts in Kirkby the yard was?
Somewhere in here I would have thought –
Jon
It’s not Shack Nav seat, look at pics in my link.
I have done pagen01 and I see the same seat but with padding and leather covers on!
Jon
Hi, So Shack it is then, any idea what mark of Shack it would have been fitted to?
Thanks
Dan
Assuming WL78? is the a/c serial then likely an MR2.
Jon
I have manuals which I should be able to scan..
Prince manuals!?! After 18 months searching I have yet to find any.
As for removing the props – we opted to leave them on. Was quicker to remove the 4 engine bolts than try to strip down the prop and locate the right prop spanner to whip them off.
Jon
.. has been *rescued*. The judge gave it away on condition it was removed from the field & a mate of mine who works for the FAA grabbed it. It will now be dismantled & moved out to the desert… Not sure what the plan is after that.
It’s already been moved across the field to PR’s hangar & I’ll be digging out my Whitworths in the morning…
It’s been parked so long the engine cowls contain bird nests made from SS safety wire… (or at least they did last time I looked at it)Pics to follow 🙂
Sounds like the situation we had with G-AMLZ – grab first, worry about the details later.
They are pretty easy to take apart. You will probably spend more time getting all the access panels off!
Dont suppose there are any spares with it?
If I can be of any help let me know.
Jon
Postfade,
Quick search through the records and that is G-AMLZ’s sister G-AMLY! Built as a Prince 3 and later modded to a Prince 4.
Quoting from CAA records
First registered to Shell Refining & Marketing Co Ltd 3/12/51
Sold to Venezuela 2/12/52
Back to Shell Refining & Marketing Co Ltd 3/4/54
To Martin Baker Aircraft Company Ltd 23/3/55
Then registered VR-UDC (and hence end of CAA records) 11/7/58 – presumably back to Shell??
Jon
Can any of you knowlegeable guys tell me anything about this Prince then:
Leave it with me 😉
Jon
We got a nice surprise today.
When someone spied a patch of red paint showing on the underside of port wing we decided to investigate further – few hours later and the orginal Shell aero coloured registration had been revealed. You can also make out successive applications in varying shades of blue – all slighty in a different location!
Jon
As promised – hi rez copy to aid identification.
Included the whole instrument panel as some variation between each side (no doubt dependant on what was available at the time). Everything there is pretty standard and pops up on EBay etc on a regular basis. In fact may have a few of them in the spares box – will check for you tomorrow.
Jon
Ah!!
Having just rotated the second picture and assuming it is the a/c registration it is rather obvious – WL78? which would make it Shackleton. So that reduces id to 5 possibles – WL785 – 789. Do you know any history of the item?
Jon
Dan Dare sorry i mean Air? 😉
Quick search of the net yielded this snap for comparison (not taken at Speke)

As one of the guys working on the Brit (who knows we may have met on your visit!) will ask around at the weekend for you – pretty sure at least one of the lads went from Eagle to Dan Air so should be able to gleam more information.
Jon
ray,
little update, book found and ordered.
Having just found a copy for less than £8 inc P&P so have I!
Jon
Must be something on that service tag I can see behind the canvas PSP/chute type pack.
