Just about to head down so see people there later today π

Didn’t Cranfield have a Lancaster at about the same time as they had RF342? If so this could well have been one of the last to go.
Would that not have been PA474?
Jon
Does the Viking at Brooklands have a set of wings ? Seem to remember that it used to be at Cosford, with the old BA collection many years ago, also would the Valetta bits from Sunderland have been of use on the Viking ?
Yes the Viking does have a set of wings. They are stored behind the “Wellington” hangar.
Jon
How far do you want to go back?
Mark
Well thats no older than 1938 but still a good way back!!

Also what are the implications of this statement – “The SPT owns the design rights and certified drawings for all Shackletons”
Jon
Possibly a rumor, but I read somewhere that the B25 Bedsheet bomber was moved to a scrapyard recently? Can anyone confirm?
She is with Parkhouse aviation at Booker. Has been for over a year now iirc. More a case the new owner happens to be in that line of business than it is about to go for pots and pans π

Been a very sad sight watching them steadily vanish……

And while we are pondering it, here are two more pics but much more sober. I must have taken them in the 70’s when visiting my brother in Enfield. The legend on the Ford says ’85 (Southgate) Squadron Air Training Corps’. Did this one survive, looks too good to not have…
cheers
Alan
It does indeed – http://www.neam.org.uk/Exhibits/History/GARHX.htm
In fact should have some pictures somewhere from when I visited a month or two back…..
Jon
Sorry if this is a silly question but is JayPee an aircraft type, or is it another forum member who might know.
Johnnie
JayPee = Jet Provost π
Jon
Great news Jon – look forward to the pics.
Roger Smith.
Dont get too excited as only one decent snap! Though it is taken outside the hangar she used to be looked after in π
Looking through I did my usual trick of taking a few pictures when it arrived, then spent all day working so by the time I wanted to take some more it was too dark. Nevermind, I will get more at the weekend.
Jon
Well she is finally at Speke! A mere 14 months after we rescued it lol
In spite of the weather doing everything possible to ruin the day (heavy rain/sleat combined with 50mph+ winds) she was safely unloaded and we have started the prep work ready for reassembly in a fortnights time. Will post some pictures later today π
Jon
and in your ownership Jon H
Keith.
Minor correction – She is the sole property of the Jetsream Club. I merely helped with the acquisition π
Jon
The arriving at Speke tomorrow is…….
She was loaded up today ready for delivery tomorrow π
Big thanks as always to the guys at RAF Millom museum for their help.
Jon
Lets not forget the Bristol Proteus based “Pocket” power stations dotted around at one time.

:confused::confused:
Bit of googling and may have found the answer (information taken from The Norfolk & Suffolk Aviation Museum website) –
D4 (Piston Provost)
Manufactured in 1949/50 to Air Ministry order by Aviation Trainers Limited, incorporating Link sub-assemblies. Now complete with all systems and overhead radio, it normally βfliesβ well but the radio navigation systems are not fully checked out. As acquired, the desk radio unit was stripped to give intercom only and the overhead radio was missing. The automatic radio compass system was bypassed to give a heading indicator. The vacuum achieved is at the lowest acceptable level although we cannot find any significant leaks. A spare βturbineβ is in store awaiting rebuild.
D4 Mk 2 (Jet Provost)
Manufactured around 1955 as a D4 modified to represent the Jet Provost, with higher speeds and simpler engine controls. When acquired, several electro mechanical modules were missing although the radio system was complete. With little chance of acquiring the mechanical units the radio system was therefore used to complete the D4. Eventually we hope to convert this unit to a fixed base trainer. So far, the undercarriage, flaps and engine rpm systems work and a prototype compass system is being tested.
