We are steadily getting there with the repaint! (Best snap I could manage at the time given where the sun was!)

Jon, She looks in great shape despite the condtion of the nosewheels!

Nosewheels are off our Prince G-AMLZ not the Sea Prince at Bournemouth 😉

Having got one Sea Prince out of the weeds would be nice to do it for a second but does not appear to be much hope of that at present. “Restoration” at Lasham seems to mean slow destruction by the elements.:confused::mad:

Having pulled another of the breed (well a Prince 🙂 ) out of the weeds such delights as this are no doubt lurking underneath the poor thing……….. I suggest you open the hi res version to see just how shot the nose wheels are.

We are not even going to attempt to salvage these as the only thing holding them together now is the concrete filled tyres! So two complete nose wheels to add the the shopping list  Just wish we had a Prince manual or two to help make the task that bit easier lol

One more question – are BFP’s a military only piece of kit or were they used in civilian a/c as well?

    4 = Dove

The 821 is probably an individual inspector. As there is no letter after the ‘DH’, it may well be from Hatfield.

    Bruce

A Dove hey – well that muddy’s the waters a bit given where it came from. More research needed I think…..

    Cheers,

Ok my educated guess is a Blind Flying Panel made by De Havilland with the 821 part of the stamp indicating a particular factory. Sound plausible?

Ah well in that case then G-AOVI looks the most likely candidate 🙂

The A380 is due to due to do flypasts at Manchester and Liverpool airports after leaving Fairford on Saturday ,then display at the Wirral Show. It will then land at Farnborough in readiness fror next week’s show.

Finally, Capital of Culture 2008 stuff has served a useful purpose 😉 Though I will be at RIAT lol

do you know why the cockpit is at booker, and how much of the fuse has been offered?

By chance I called into Booker on Friday and was able to chat with the guys and take some snaps. Cockpit has ended up at Booker as the firm contracted to dispose of it is based there. They did offer to dismantle it properly so it could either be moved or stored until someone else took it on but timescales and lack of space sadly meant that was not a viable option – the cockpit only survived as the lads felt something should be kept. Everything else you see on the lorry is due to go for scrap in the next few days.

Fuse wise you are talking from infront of the tailplane up to where the front was removed.

As a matter of interest can you tell us (me) more about the Rapide replica – or is it a FSM?
What’s it made of? has it fabric covering or fibreglass? who made it? how old it it now? how has it stood up to the UK weather? etc., etc.

    Roger Smith.

It is somewhere between a replica and FSM. A mixture of modern concessions and original construction – a steel frame taking the weight with the rest of the structure made out of wood covered in Fabric. Was ordered by the developers when converting the terminal into a hotel as an added feature and built locally at Hooton Park. So that makes it something like 5-8 years old (sorry not 100% sure!). Weather has obviously had an effect but now that we are trying to carry out regular maintenance on it (still owned by the hotel not us) it will be around for a good while yet. Now just to curtail the ongoing vandalism it endures….. From both the local youth and hotel guests I should add! Hopefully the fence we will be erecting around in very shortly will help with that.

    Any more questions?

p.s. If I get chance I will take some pictures from in and around it this weekend.

1 went last up in smoke year, and the last one is not worth saving. The remaining one is a bare shell, slightly singed and gutted. Located on a ramp at a 45 degree angle, fuse buckled. Nasty.

The listed Whirlwind is little more than a burnt transmission deck and VERY badly damaged Fuse.

Reached the same conclusion last night when I found these snaps!
