How are you fiding out what registration your initials would be?

I was told mine, however most people are using this – http://www.caa.co.uk/application.aspx?catid=60&pagetype=65&appid=1

Whilst talking about Vulcans and Cosford it is a shame the mk1 nose section is no longer on display due to health and safety…….. 🙁

Now be honest Cees – you have sat in the pilots seat making engine noises and pretending to fly havent you???? 😉

Good to see all your efforts coming to fruition. 🙂

Now say a group of 20 people were set up each putting £250 in the pot, which makes £5000 to purchase the plane, now the 5000 figure is up and down like a rolercoaster so things would have to be adjusted. Then once you have the a/c you condiser your options static, taxiable or flying now the last to options you could get money back to put into the a/c but then you have spending costs etc

Thats my rough idea and one got any ideas?

Assuming you can even buy it for £5000 – remember that figure is a reserve in an auction NOT an asking price. What is to say they arent watching this forum (yes you would be very surprised who watches on here!) and holding out for more money……

As for costs think you need to think bigger as not accounted for things like transport (thousand or two probably), amassing spares assuming you can even find them (anything up tens of thousands at a guess) and potentially any on going storage/hangarage costs depending where she goes. And that is all before you start with ANY restoration work!

    Ben

Think you will find it will be second time lucky for this airframe…… 😉

Was just quoting the TVOC website – “The aircraft will be restored at Bruntingthorpe by a technical team from Marshall Aerospace, Cambridge, is supported by BAE SYSTEMS plc the Design Authority, and many major Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), ” 🙂

not sure how they intend to compare results for fatigue life taken from an aircraft that has been stood outside since 1982, to 558′ which, give or take has been under restoration since 1997 (not quite sure about this) and arrived there in 92’/93′ since 1997 has been under a MASSIVE restoration effort. really cant see the comparison that can be made there. i dont know it seems like nothing more but an excuse to scrap her! i didnt know that BAe had anything to do with 558 either?

If they just wanted to scrap her why bother with tests and allowing her to be parted out?

Also think you will find BAe is heavily involved with 558 being the design authority these days of the type!

Not sure and I was surprised myself. I see you say in another thread that the engines are not installed. Are you absolutely sure about that? I could be wrong but it looked like they were from what I noticed (only casual glance) through the missing panels and intakes.

I think it is a combination of resource and weather as to why they havent finished her yet.

110% sure there are no engines in VF (got pictures somewhere). Just the front end which bolts to the mount so that props can still be hung.

I took loads of pictures of VF but most of them would bore people are reference shots for how panels etc fit together 🙂

    Poor XL319 🙁

Vanalism is a problem we all have……

Note the damage to the Rapide replica at Speke (lower port wing) and that is outside the reception of a Marriot hotel which manned 24×7!! We have started bringing it back up to scratch but we accept that in the future someone else will damage her again……*sigh*

Apart from the Swiss one, the Brooklands example, the superb looking ex-Jinnah one in Pakistan, a dodgy looking effort in SA ( it has tricycle undercarriage), and one listed in Austria, what others remain, apart from the Dinky Toys survivor from my childhood.

This should help answer your question 🙂

Ok if she has to be scrapped i want the name of the company/person to scrap here so i can save as much as i can

Unless you are after a chunk of fuselage I would imagine she will be gutted for anything useful long before the likes of us get near it!

Someone surely needs to save her, cosford? millom? private collection?

    anywhere

Well we already have one so that rules us out at Speke.

Though if someone wants to save her we (JSC/BAPT) can certainly help advise on dismantling it.

Old wood chisel and a garryson disk.

Roy used that approach to remove the gung round his Sea Hawk glazing (http://www.wv838.com).
