Wow only just stumbled across this as knowing G-APSA is ex Eagle thought I would read up on her. Looks like you will be in for a treat!

Some further poking around and it looks like this is the scheme in question –

Oh for christ sake, it was only a suggestion, whats the point of me going in person on my own to ask to help, I was only making a suggestion, you might have all said ” go away, were all too busy”
JUst a suggestion thats all, its a long way from home for me and frankly i have much better things to do than polishing aircraft on the weekend
, it was just a little suggestion of a supportive act, putting MY valuable time and effort as with others if allowed to give them a hand “IF THEY WANTED IT
i would gain Nothing from doing this apart from helping someone ,makes me bloody mad, i am not stupid, i never suggested turn up mob handed without permission, bloody great, try and be a sodding good samaritan ,it seems whatever i say on this forum, people take it the wrong way ,Why oh why should i bother, i will just shut my mouth in future ,and get on with my own thing instead, it may only be a scrap cockpit, but ive put every penny i can spare to save her, and would gladly help anyone with anything, but it just seems everytime i open my mouth, people on here take it the wrong way,
stuff it why should i bother, bury the bloody lot in a pit and set fire to it for all i care 😡

    Hey easy Merkle 🙂

If you search on Lasham etc you will see that the collection there has been discussed numerous times and many of the responses here are born out of sheer fustration!

Keep the faith and more importantly smiling 😉

I would waste my time traveling 170 mile round trips to the Museum if it was going to fail, I have belief in what we are doing.

Did you mean you would not waste your time travelling 170 mile round trip………?! 😉

Its a great place and I heartly recommend people go and visit.

Ok i possibly did jump the gun, after looking at there website/s i didnt know that. But its all well and good being offered a plane but do you have the man power/resources/money and all those other things to restore it?

Hey we have all jumped the gun at some point so no harm done 🙂

Before I go any further I should state that I am not connected to Millom and its activities – I am based 100 odd miles away and spend my time playing at Speke with 40+ tons of Bristol Britannia (http://www.jetstream-club.org). I have got to know the guys there through their very generous gesture of storing Prince G-AMLZ for now for the JSC so am purely commenting based on my observations.

What I keep trying to say is dont instantly assume everything is going to be restored and/or kept. For example the Whirlwind from Chorley as stated elsewhere here was acquired in the first instance just for the engine. Or the Swift, Balliol and Firefly – based on their time at NEAM the owner who has put them on loan may just want them left the way they are.

They are a good bunch of lads up there and they are building a great little set up that offers something for everyone. Oh and more often than not a cup of tea thrown into the deal 😉

Haha getting very desperate lol 😀

i really want to know the collecting policy, if this museum goes head over heels we could loose so much.

As they say its better not to have all your eggs in one basket (i think)

In a way its good that your saving airframes but i am quite disapointed your going out and buying this that and the other. Its not a way a museum should work in my eyes, and as im getting involoved in the wz museum its a massive learning curve. We will stick to our collecting policy as that what will interest the people who visit us, raf millom should have local airframes/exhibits. Museums on the duxford scale are in a different league.

Merkle has highlited a very good point

Hmmm a tad paradoxical there 668…..

You complain about their collecting policy yet admit the stuff they have in the main saved from the scrapman you say must be preserved? Usually Millom have been the last group to be offered stuff before being melted down – they have at least granted it a stay of execution.

From my experience you tend not to look a gift horse in the mouth. If someone offers you a plane you take it! Then once you have it safely stored you can decide if it is something you want to keep or failing that it is a bargaining chip to exchange for something you do.

Finally, you do know Millom has several sites that cover all aspects of aviation and that the unrestored airframes are only going to the restoration facility?

The hangars at Hooton Park would benefit hugely from that kind of attention. Paid the guys there a visit the other day. What they are doing to save them is highly commendable I just hope they pull it off in time!

and also some of the exotic places travelled, such as…er…Speke.:diablo:

    camlobe

The most travelled bit I have found so far is the port prop.

15-10-1952 fitted to Port engine Prince G-AMLY which promtly goes out to Venezula and becomes YU-P-AEC
17-03-1955 swapped to STBD (a/c now back on uk reg)
    07-08-1957 onto Prince VP-KNN
    20-01-1959 goes onto Prince G-ALRY/F-BJAI
01-07-196 swapped to other side and plane goes out to Venezula – reg VP-KRN
    27-10-1962 shifted to Prince G-AMLW
24-01-1964 is exported back to the UK from Rio de Janerio

Finally 3 and a bit years later on 09-05-1967 its shipped to British Eagle Airlines, Speke Airport, Liverpool 24, where 5 days later on the 14th eventually makes it onto G-AMLZ!

So by my reckoning that is 5 different Prince’s in 15 years that have worked all over the world before making it onto ours – not bad going really 😎 🙂

Well Christmas came stupidly early yesterday – was handed a box last night that contains most of MLZ’s logbooks! Got both a/c, a journey one from late 60’s, both props, one engine and a stack of job cards.

Only had chance to have a quick look through (now off out to work on the Brit) but so far stumbled across the original owners details and hard proof she was looked after up here at Speke by British Eagle for a while.

All that is left is to thank Mike Collett and John Corley at Classic Flight for finding them and letting us have them 🙂

Would LOVE to go Tony, only thing, dont know if i would manage to get my trailer made up by then, “Any scrap twin axle caravans going free:D ”

and also she is in such a poor state, i wouldnt want to embarress her, all naked with her guts hanging out, the old girl needs some dignity you know,
she will get a bit of Pampering, and then you can bet your bottom dollar she will be at the fest , and the great thing with a canberra, shes big enough to sleep in, LOL, although a little uncomfortable :diablo:

If you get a trailer sorted in time bring her along as its all part of the experience. Many a project has been there in an unrestored state.

People will see her now, possibly offer you bits to help, then when you come back next time they can marvel at the progress you have made.

then we will aquire a small shed/nissan hut type building.

Search round on other threads here about the pitfalls of moving a nissan hut – iirc not just a simple case of disassemble, move and rebuild!

(if i could get an ex 45 sqn hunter id be the happiest buny alive asthe family has a 45 sqn past)

    Any help please?

    668

Hasnt Merkle got one now in the shape of Canberra WH887?

Be prepared to pay good money – A Bucc cockpit was available not so long ago and iirc went for over £4000, whilst Hunters seem to be around the £2000 mark from what i have seen.

I’ve got about thirty of them!

I think they will be heading for Ebay shortly – but I may just weigh them in!

    Bruce

    You cant junk them Bruce!

If you are that eager to shift them I will grab a car full as they will prove handy swaps for Brit and Prince bits. Plus would be nice to have one or two for Speke given the types’ association with the place down the years.

Here she (G-BEJD) is today being towed back to the hanger with the rumour she is going to be rebuilt.

Oh thats good news – at least she isnt being left to rot.

Will have to get onto our ex Emerald members and see what info they can gleam!
