Oh ok 2 more snaps before i crawl into bed 😉
1st one is of the starboard wing having sucessfully managed to get the gear retracted (no mean feat), and the second is us putting the fuse onto the wagon so we could move it out the was of the building works starting Monday.

Well what a day.
Afraid having spent 16 hours all in on this today I am both totally knackered and in the doghouse with my girlfriend so you will have to wait until tomorrow for an more indepth update.
For now make do with a few potted pics (of the 100+ i took!) and for me to say everything bar the fuse left the side today headed for Millom with a second trip pencilled in for Friday 🙂 Also have to brag – we only had to make 1 unplanned cut – and even that was carefully considered for when we repair it!
Laters 😉
Jon
Thought you might 😀
Well having had a nightmare of a day with this (well week really) and all looking bleak, someone finally turned the light at the end of the tunnel back on.
HAVE CRACKED IT!!! 😀 😀
I have managed to pull together enough resources and support to acquire and move her tomorrow. 🙂 Though as is always the way with these things I only got the 2 great bits of news i had been waiting for a good half hour after the 4pm deadline.
There is more info (one bit that has been a very pleasant and unexpected surprise!) to follow but for the time being need to arrange things for tomorrow.
If anyone is in the area tomorrow and feel like getting dirty you are more than welcome to join us 🙂
A now rather happy!,
Jon
Well I suppose people would like an update?
What sort of money are we talking chaps?
This one needs to be saved.
Bruce
Sorry also should have said that there is a cut off time to this off about 4pm today. If a no go by then I am going to have to very reluctantly cancel the guys on standby to help with this and the haulage firm etc etc.
Having take the day off work and managed only an hours sleep last night thinking about this, I need to wrap this up one way other for the good of my health if nothing else lol
Jon
What are Speke’s charges?
At this moment in time thats not an issue as she could not go there currently.
It was an idea being explored for sometime next year but construction plans at Caernarfon have forced this rather hurried attempt to just save the thing.
I was looking into it as it has a lot of history with the old airport but frankly at this moment in time would gladly see it go anywhere if preserved.
Jon
2k plus transport. Which for where we have arranged temporary storage for her would give change out of £500.
So as RPSMith said not a kings ransom by any stretch!
Jon
*bump*
C’mon folks – a chance for someone or a small group to save this aircraft.
It doesn’t need a King’s ransom – I’ll be part of a small goup will anyone else??
Roger Smith.
Yup I can go for that – count me in 🙂

Forgive my ignorance on the subject, but is WF137 at Lasham a Sea Prince or a Prince? Reason I ask is that although it is a Percival P.57 Sea Prince C Mk.1, its construction number is PAC/50/05 (i.e. a P.50 Prince construction number), whereas the Percival P.57 Sea Prince T Mk.1’s and C Mk.2’s all has c/ns starting “PAC/57/..”. Appologies for taking it slightly off topic, I was just curious to see if AMLZ really is the sole Prince.
Andy
My understanding is that WF137 is a Sea Prince C1 c/n P66/005 whilst AMLZ is a Prince 6E c/n P/46
Though having typed that I am not convinced about the P66 bit of WF137’s c/n…… That would put it in with pembrokes. Still, everything I have read and people I have spoken to say WF137 is a Sea Prince and AMLZ a Prince.
Jon
I know someone who went to look at the Hunter at the weekend, took one look at it and promptly walked away! It is waaaaay beyond help now – cockpit project at the very best.
Jon
Is that the only Prince still in existence then?
If it is then, yes it must be saved surely. It seems like our post war civil types do get pushed aside abit.
Do any of the Mergansers or Presidents survive?
Sure is.
So that then leads onto me saying does anyone want it as time is about to run out on it as a complete airframe! Where it sits now is slap bang in the middle of some building works that start next week. The museum had start on getting her down to a size they could accomodate and cut the tail off (see very poor picture – cameraphone I am afraid!) before I manged to intervene last weekend. Whlist unfortunate about the tail it is repairable and actually makes transport easier!
Having negotiated a sensible price for her everything was lined up to dismantle it tomorrow and move her to Speke but have fallen short in as much it cant go there now. So if anyone has a burning desire to acquire it or knows someone that does then please PM me asap.
If it doesn’t go tomorrow then I believe a wing is to be chopped as well so she can be dragged into the space in the museum. 🙁 I have considered buying it myself by frankly its a bit too much to take on on your own. I have sorted accomodation elsewhere for the time being with another museum so just needs the backing of a group or someone now.
fingers crossed 🙂
Jon
Would people say G-AMLZ is worth saving?
Sorry for dredging up an old thread but been reading up on her of late 🙂
Rich,
Would it be possible to get a Hi Res copy of the U/C picture? Have been looking for one to refer to whilst we work on the ones off our Brit 🙂
Cheers,
Jon
*holds hands up* fairs fair! 😮
Fluke then that I clicked on the one UK based auction 😉
