Hmm maybe an hour in the car allowing for traffic……. :p
I may be wrong, but there will probably be other A/C cockpits on display as well, so the Sea Hawk (s) are as welcome as they were in years past!
Sorry I meant in the Hunter line up as one is an evolution of the other 🙂
Surely you should throw it open to Sea Hawks as well? 😉 😀
If it was anybody else Jon I would say they were back tracking but as its you I will say yes you have a valid point.
Been serious (only for a moment mind) yes our Vicky should be a lot easier to put back together than the Brit. I did wonder when I first saw the pics if yours was meant to have been dismantled into quite so many parts.
Joking aside they wil both be ready when they are ready and not before! 😉 Will be nice to see these 2 examples of classic airliners in all their glory once again 🙂
In terms of the number of parts i can understand why she was taken apart so much having now worked on her. I think a lot of stuff came of whilst trying to gain access for other jobs. Bristol never had any intention of these things coming apart again once built!
Take for example the outer wings (based on our reverse engineering anyway!) – they will have had to come off to reduce the winspan for transport from 144ft to 99ft (working from memory to forgive me is slightly out 🙂 ). But to get them off you need to strip off the control surfaces, leading edge and a hefty chunk of rear wing (not essential but a good move!). By this stage you then have access to the hatch into the wing which is approx 12 feet away from the join! From there you then have to remove the bag tanks and can crawl on you front inside the wing up to the 80 odd nuts holding it on. Oh and lets not forget the countless rivets holding the skins on……
So by the time you have scaled this up across the rest of the Brit……!!! 😮
Jon
Ha ha but youve had a head start though Jon.
In my eyes thats a slightly unfair bet or is that the only way you win them? :diablo:
Ah but in our defence at least yours has been taken apart at transport joints – ours was never meant to come apart into so many bits 😀 :diablo:
Bet we have our Brit together first though!! :p 😀
Good to see she has finally arrived and getting some TLC.
Jon
Thats seriously impressive!!! bit of a waste of time in the end though wasn’t it? they cut her up to get her inside the main hall didn’t they?
What do you think the pictures are of??? They took it apart to get her into the main hall…… 😀
Also you could argue that there are 2 already at Wellesbourne – XM655 and the nose of XA903.
But then the same can be said of Brunty (XH558 and nose of XM602) and Cosford (XM598 and nose of XA893) so not that special! lol :p
Nice photos Nashio. Did you take one of the Britannia undergoing her repaint outside? Just wondered how far they’ve got.
Now is was looking for an excuse to get down to Cosford 😉
Well I have to make some phones call about another one of the breed this afternoon as heard some rather worrying reports 🙁
Odd one as i recognise the kids voice at the end from Pink Floyds album “The Wall”!! Never seen the video/movie that goes with it but thanks to my Dad listened to it enough!
I probably have most of the instruments. Got any piccies to aid identification?
Bruce
Finally some pictures to help!
The wants list has shrunk a bit now to this –
Part Number Description
KB224/05W Indicator, airspeed (Kelvin H) (Alt. KAB 0804W for 312 and 317) – x2
KB251/02W Indicator, rate of climb (Kelvin ‘H’) (Alt. KRA 0202W) – x1
KAA1603-W Altimeter (Kelvin and Hughes) – x2
I have circled in red the ASI and the Altimeter and have also included a picture of the RoC.
Also I have titled the panel pic Mising for a reason – I aint got it 🙁 If anyone has one of these (scan is the right layout for a 312 variant as far as I can tell) and is willing to part with it then please get in touch 🙂
Thoroughly recommend the lastest video offerings in the Engineering update section on the website!
With such titles as No. 4 engine going to MAX!!! you know its all good 😀
Well to quote WV838 – “I like taking s*&t and making it shine again” 😀
hmmm…. So looks like these bulb covers are more elusive than i thought 🙁
Have just acquired the 2 beam compasses i need 🙂 Just one problem – one of them is missing a bulb cover (bottom left corner) as you can see on the picture below 🙁
Does anyone have a spare one they are happy to part with…?
Thanks,
Jon
