Regards the Vulcan, we simply don’t have enough people to form a working party. There are a number of us who float about doing a bit of everything, and I think that it is us who will chip in on the Vulcan. Maybe one or two people on the beastie full time, with help when needed. She certainly is THE priorty museum-wide now. As always, weather permitting.
Great work on the Brit, by the way!
I meant think bigger! Set a date for a “Vulcan working party day – help wanted”. At this moment in time you arent looking for time served mechanics or ex RAF fitters etc, you are just after sheer manpower to clean the beast and apply some simple protective measures to stabilise her. Most folks can handle a paint brush after all 😀
As an example – I think it was XL391 (only using you as an example not offering your services so relax:D ) that was trying to offer his services put in a day a month to help look after 607 and he lives the otherside of the country from it!
Even if its a one off I think everyone would be VERY surprised what one day of hard graft from a dedicated group could achieve.
As for the Brit – here is a little update pic 😉
Would it be worth trying to organise a dedicated working party day?
We try and have one once a month at Speke (in addition to normal weekend activities) and we average about 15 people coming to work on the Brit. Admittedly the nature of the project is different in that CF is in bits but the essence is the same.
Think you will find the last complete Vulcan K.2 is about to fly again 🙂 Albeit in its B.2 configuration.
The K.2’s that I can remember off the top of my head are –
XH558
XJ825
XL445
XH560
XH561
XM571
In fact thinking about it that might be the lot of them! 😀

A true DC4 is a rare beast, perhaps some thought should be given to try & save this one. I understand that it’s in poor condition & was going to be destroyed during filming. However it is still complete & there are plenty of interesting British airline colours to choose from. It would make a great static exhibit, in Starways or Air Charter colours. 😉
Oh that would be nice – a DC4 in Starways colours next to our Brit at Speke…. 😀
I just want to know where to get filters’n’stuff for it 🙁
Easy – the filters’n’stuff shop 😀
eh up TT, sorry to hijack the thread, but does your Jim look anything like our Doug ? http://jetstream-club.org/tug/
Cheers,
Roy.
You could have used some current pics of Doug in its new paint scheme….. 😛
Jon – really easy ! The wings come off and it arrived by road anyway so I doubt if much of her is put together properly anyway!
lol 😀
Wonder where the wing joints are located? At the fuse or somewhere round the engine pods…..
Jon
The Sea Prince has always been insecure at Long Marston. It could quite easily have been moved into the compound but it was not to be. In the past
it was painted in ‘Gods Kitchen’ colours. Her sole purpose is now as a gateguard – as easy to tag as any of the numerous trains or indeed buildings that suffer the same.
Poor thing 🙁
Out of sheer interest how easy would it be to move a sea prince by road? Are there any transport joints in one and if so would it break down enough to even be viable?
Jon
Also if it is XA890 then there is a picture of her being completed on the assembly line at Woodford on the bottom of page 56 in said book 😀
Looks like a Mk1 judging by the lack of paint on the nose wheel leg. So a quick glance in my handy Vulcan Story book means Vulcan B.Mk1 XA890 looks like the winner.
“Delivered 1955. Olympus 104 engines. A&AEE trials. RAE Farnborough and Thurleigh trials. Manufacturer trials. Radio and radar trials, blind landing trials and ballistic research. Withdrawn and scrapped at Bedford in 1971”
Nice pic by the way 🙂

WOW, big difference and looking very good. When I get chance I intend to get my Canberra overdosed backside over to see Charlie Fox and I’ll let u know when Im on way if thats ok? Bex
Of course it is 😀 Just give either me or Roy a shout.
If nothing else you can fly a Canberra in the simulator 😉
Jon, shes a bit of a mess. Thanks for sharing those photos. 1 question, as Ive never been on or seen inside a Brittania, but are those original Britt seats or a Fire Brigade optional extra? Glad u got the panels out before she got any worse!! Bex
Yup original seats. They asked that those in the picture stayed though as hey are used for strapping dummies to when training.
Never been in a Brit! tut tut 😉 To give you an idea then this is a similar view i quickly took in G-ANCF the other night having just refitted the co pilots seat.
here you go 😀
I think that you might be right, could often see thick black smoke billowing from it.
I think they did set fire to 5N-AWD HS-125 and G-TAXY PA-31 that lived within the same compound for years.
Victor Sierra must now be a Health & Safety nightmare, it certainly was back in the 1990’s! It must have been sat outside for nearly 25 years? When did it last fly?
Funnily enough the only bit that currently falls fowl of H&S is the cockpit because there is a hole in the floor! Dont get me wrong she aint in teh best condition by any stretch but all things considered is doing well. If anyone is intrested I will post a few snaps
I think she last flew late 70’s/early 80’s.
one of those american transports that was in the ‘Air America’ film. Damned if I can remember what they are – it is, after all, one o’ clock in the morning……
Twin radials and twin jets….
Already been identified as off a Britannia by Bex 😉
