Good in parts I think. A bit like a British ‘Right Stuff’ with the inclusion of the insights into the home life of the characters . I liked the scene of the first encounter between Beamont and Edwards. Shame about the comedy Stuka at the end though, but its difficult finding good usable clean sound effects of a Sabre at full throttle from inside or outside the cockpit ! Well done to the Beeb for broadcasting a story which still manages to stir emotions either way.
Great pics of the 110 at the TechniksMuseum. I wonder what happened to the canopy side windows? Apparently the same Museum has Ju88 and Heinkel 111 projects in the pipeline ?
Fascinating and sobering . Very interesting finding out about the individual men responsible for capturing the images in the first place, and their contrasting backgrounds. It’s appropriate to give a credit for such memorable and historic images after all this time. Hamburg and Belsen pictures should be compulsory viewing for anyone curious enough to know what we’re capable of as a species.
Fun to see the doggy passenger in the 109.
Eye4Wings, your dad did a great job.
Its interesting to consider your comments about the hazards of a wartime childhood. I was in central London on July 7th 2005 just after the bus exploded in Tavistock Square. I overheard a lady of senior years say:
“At least in my day you could hear them coming…”
“….sucks butt…” Good Heavens !
I can think of a nice length of Typhoon fuselage in Holland that would look terrific with that cockpit !
Well in that case let’s hope it ends up OVER Northern Ireland then ! If the wreck stays in Northern Ireland it should go to the Ulster Aviation Society.
Am I right in thinking all those aircraft are British bar the CF 100 ?
I think this aeroplane ended up with Vultee ? I seem to remember seeing some great colour shots of her at the American factory being taken apart. As far as I know she never flew again.
Hi Ollie I think I saw the colour pix in a Crecy book on the history of the 110. The stills are actually extracts from a colour FILM made by the aircraft manufacturer during the examination of the airframe. Now that’s a film I’d really like to see ! Maybe there are some leads to follow on other forums ?
And to you sir

Morning All
A great source of gun camera footage can be found on the Pathe website. The content is predominantly American European Theatre black and white, edited with titles at the beginning of each roll. I’ve spent hours looking at this stuff, and found extraordinary images of amongst others a force landed B17 being strafed, Mistel combinations being shot down, and chillingly a friendly fire attack on a Mosquito.

I want to see The One That Got Away remade and I want to see Michael Fassbender play Von Werra. Real Emils this time too !
It’s a fascinating film especially after visiting the USS Intrepid this year. Keep a look out for the disappearing and reappearing ordnance loaded to aircraft due to continuity problems !
During the deep clean of the Dornier at Cosford bones were found in the debris that came out of the wings. Not human thankfully.
