A great tribute ! Wonder what will replace her on the Golden Apple books?
Another candidate for the Cosford Poly Tunnels !
Don’t give the Cosford team nightmares !
According to Tomislav over on the Hyperscale forum this aeroplane was assigned to 239 Squadriglia Regia Aeronautica and was lost on April 12th 1941 while attacking Royal Yugoslav seaplanes at Jadrovac. Here’s to a successful recovery and conservation. Lots to work with there !
The Dornier fuselage cockpit and components have been taken into MBCC. Wing still in the wash.
Not far from the Dornier and in deeper water is a JU88 that is largely complete and which has been filmed by Bob Peacock. Pix on Youtube. Meanwhile the polytunnels at Cosford are empty !
Spitfire departs Northolt 1810 approx heading north west
I’d like to second Mike J’s comments and take this opportunity to thank everyone involved with keeping this fabulous aeroplane airworthy
Spitfire on transporter on M25 heading west before Junction 16 approx 1015 this evening
My first Spitfire was TD248 while she was stuck up a pole at RAF Sealand. Her roundel used to glare at me every time we came back over the border into Wales.
Great news well done lads
Five minutes out !
Interesting to see that some of the Dornier cockpit components now being conserved at Cosford also have Made in Germany written in English on them
BBC will show a half hour documentary updating the story of the Dornier on the News Channel later this month. No firm transmission date yet.
Am I correct in thinking this is the path the RAF Museum has chosen to pursue with their Hampden ?
