Of course the stylish way to go with maritime reconnaissance is the Kawasaki PX !

Ah the old discussion….restoration or reconstruction ?

Riddled with inaccuracies. Lovely to see Tom Neil but appalling **** ups with archive and script howlers. Judge for yourselves.

Fascinating to see the state of the airframe then compared to now. The team at Cosford have worked wonders. Areas of the skin around the cockpit area have totally lost the concretions and barnacles and appear as natural metal. The corrosion seems to have been arrested, and great progress is being made on the restoration and conservation of individual items. What’s interesting to consider is just how far the team will go with the process of restoration. If they leave ‘as is but stabilised’ for display the RAF Museum will have, including Copping’s P40, five wrecks on show.

I had a squint in the cockpit a coulpe of months ago. At the time the stick top was missing, the original harness was still fitted, as were most of the instruments. Still intrigued that its an unarmed variant ?

Looks great back on its wheels. I notice its unarmed. And I hope it stays where it is !

Seeing the quality of the restoration of the items from the Dornier, what are the RAF Museum expecting the finished airframe to look like ? Are pristine looking items due to be refitted to a conserved though wrecked airframe ? Are robbed parts to be refitted ? Do we expect to see something similar to the Halifax ?

Interesting though judging by that video providing the wreck hasn’t been pillaged some parts are in better shape than the Dornier. I can see the cockpit front facing machine gun, Landing and nav lights, stencilling and blue paint on the wings….

Point taken about conservation, Andy. But seeing the set up at Cosford with the Dornier in the polytunnels at the moment, what could go in there when the Dornier comes out ?

Are Rolls Royce interested in any of this activity ? I believe they signed off any product liability for Derwents in 1977. Or are jets a different matter?

Thanks very much for the info gents. The Freeman Field Recovery page is epic ! Seeing our fellow forumite’s build of Spitfire 1 L1019 made me think that could be a fitting destination for L1059’s Propeller !

A wonderful photograph, and one of special interest to me, since my Grandfather was on sentry duty at RAF Hawarden when the Spitfires of 7 OTU were scrambled, and my Father was ordered off the shed roof by his irate elder brother to get a better view of the Heinkel coming down !

Folks if more confirmation were needed years ago when I was a child and this structure was a garage facility a mechanic asked me if I could see ‘The Bomber’ ? I said no so he just pointed at the roof !

Handley Page looks to be a good match though I had originally thought Caudron as nearby Sealand was a Training facility during the Great War. Interesting to think of 0/400 ‘s being broken up at Sealand though the parts could be crash salvage.

Hi Atcham nice to see pics and glad you got access. What is the future for the structure ? Haven’t been there a while !
