LIFE archives has some interesting photos…:)
Edit: The photos captioned as Do-17 are in fact Ju-88.
The reverse says “BC157 VALENCIA” not Murcia. Photo Laboratory adress i think. About “CAN” I think it was not a postal stamp. and not related with Canary Islands. Perhaps some type of paper adhesive, usual in photoalbums in forties. Just an opinión.
Of course, after days and days without a positive identification, obviously another posibility was that the “mistery plane” was not a real plane after all. Me and my friends also in Spain still was unable to identify the plane. I searched also all know models of metal aviation toys, made in Spain at the forties, from “Paya” and “Rico” firms, also without results. The plane maybe is a 1:1 mockup of an unbuild model, a failed project, a decoy, a model kit or a toy… who knows… I still search… 🙂
I filtered the pic with photoshop, searching clues…

Maybe some type of Curtiss model 75 demonstrator with fixed undercarriage?

The Seversky received by the spanish republicans was the SEV 3. I think it was not the mystery plane.

Two new views published in Spain from the owner. The black circle on the engine cowling maybe the exhaust?. Under wing EC8 or FC8. The four “fuselaje inscription” maybe a 2 or 4 number?, and finally note more planes at the right on the photo.

Back to the spanish side. Maybe a Hispano Suiza C-36? Oficially not built, but… who knows…

Thank you so much to all for those informative posts. The plane is still unidentified. On the positive side, i know the spanish who adquired the photo. Maybe in days i have better resolution scan of the photo. For me the plane has some resemblance with the Northrop A82. Note same model and position of the pitot tube in the photo. Maybe the unidentified plane is some variant of this plane. Who knows 🙂 Cheers from Spain.

Perhaps the I.A.R. 24? (I dont see photo of this plane)… Wikipedia says it has spanish Hispano Suiza engine… maybe the plane was in Spain some time… https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IAR-23
Thanks for all replies. The photo is currently for sale on this spanish site. The seller has a group of photos of aircrafts of the spanish air force capted in 08-1941 at San Javier AB as stated almost in one reverse. Really very rare plane, i still search info… https://www.todocoleccion.net/militaria-fotografia/foto-formato-postal-avion-militar-espanol-guerra-civil-o-postguerra~x99699239
