RE: Things that really tick me off with the forum

    Guys

Thank you all for your comments.

The one thing I don’t want to convey is that I don’t think there should be light-hearted topics. As A330etc. (man, you HAVE to get a shorter name!!!!!) pointed out, he posted one of those topics and I got a real buzz out of it.

I think my real “objection” is the lack of global application of so many of these posts. This is, after all, a truly international forum and much of the delight I derive from it is being able to swap views and information with members from all corners of the globe. But I can’t talk about “favourite chips” or “best beer”, because Aussie chips wouldn’t mean a thing overseas, and the only Aussie beer that you “aliens” ever heard of was Fosters (lacquer thinners in a blue can).

Other trivial topics, like “contact sports”, has a much more universal appeal, so it is quite feasible to join in from down under.

Anyway, if those members who want to start digressing and talking about the price of peas in a thread dealing with the best-looking ten ton bomb ever dropped, would just think to start their new threads, and leave the bomb-droppers to salivate on the original topic, I think our forum could be just a little bit better.

    Cheers

    RE: thanks for the support

Funny, but I didn’t think I attacked James either. I even stated that I doubted he meant to offend A330crazy – perhaps I took too long saying it? Let’s move on and discuss some real issues, for Pete’s sake.

    RE: Rotary engines

    Christer

Sorry – I don’t know what happened there. Been having some probs. with my pc lately, keeps dropping out and telling me I’ve performed an illegal operation. If it keeps it up, it’ll find out that flying is a whole new sensation for a computer!!!

    RE: Commonwealth CA-15

    Guys

Thanks for the help and the additional info. Jim, I note that you have stated the CA-15 wasn’t one of the most picturesque aircraft. I have always thought that it was a pretty good looker, masculine, but designed like it meant business. I agree that the Woomera was a sad looking thing, but it’s tragic that neither came to anything.

BTW, if the CA-15 isn’t picturesque, what do you think was?

    RE: Horse Power

    Christer

The proper term is “brake horsepower” and as you stated, it was measured by applying a load, or “brake”, to the engine.

You will appreciate that there is a considerable difference between “braking” an engine, and “breaking” it.

Another point I seem to remember concerning the LeRhone rotary engine is that it flung copious quantities of castor oil out as it rotated, coating the aircraft and the pilot liberally whilst in flight. It was easy to tell the rotary engined fighter pilots from other engines during World War 1, because of the oil all over their faces and jackets. After a while, their flying jackets became so oil-sodden that they changed to a darker colour, particularly where they were exposed to the slip-stream above the cockpit coaming.

On the subject of the LeRhone rotary engines, I seem to remember that another characteristic of them was that they flung castor oil all over the aircraft and the pilot and this was one easy way to tell if the pilot had been flying a rotary engined aircraft – his face and flying jacket were covered in oil at the end of the flight. After a while, the jacket was totally stained with oil where it was exposed above the cockpit coaming.

I can’t believe those “kids” on the forum actually looked at the BUFF!
    Bugger the bomber – you’re a knockout!!

Don’t know about the “plane lover and all round beauty” – it could appear overly vain.

How about “Anything but plane”? (not mis-spelt, just a play on words)

    Keep ’em comin’

    RE: Hey A330crazy……….

    Congratulations, James

Nothing like introducing yourself with your foot jammed firmly in your mouth!

As you can see, international friendships run strong on this forum and, even though your thread may not have been intended to offend or aggravate, and I honestly believe you didn’t mean to offend A330Crazy, it didn’t quite come across that way.

A330Crazy is one of the more popular members of this forum. He (I assume it’s “he”) posts frequent and varied posts on a number of topices across a few forums. His posts elicit many responses, most of them positive. As he points out in his reply to a thread I have just started, I have enjoyed his posts like many others (thanks A330etc – can’t you get a shorter handle???) and I value his contribution to the forum.

Your apparent lack of experience with the forum will be your downfall if you are seen to shoot from the mouth at established members. Sit back, watch the way the forum works, and develop the respect for the views of others that the rest of us have. If something grates on you, say so, but be careful to leave any offensive tone out of your post. Notice how quickly some members attacked you since you posted this thread on your joining day? Earn your stripes first, then comment on others. Join us and enjoy the ride, just don’t make the mistake of being seen to attack the more well-established members.
