I thought the 748 was a Dakota replacement, not the other way round!

Pleased to report work ongoing on XM594! 🙂

”The museum’s Restoration Manager is pictured undertaking repainting work on the tail of Vulcan XM594”

    Has he fallen off?

    Beer O Clock

Talking of Stirling’s, I happened upon this at my local beer emporium the other day.

Made from barley, which has been grown adjacent to the former runways, at North Creake.

If you after civilian part numbers, (AGS, SP etc) then I can recommend the Brown Brothers Book.

There was a couple on Amazon last time I looked.

There were two P-3 based bids in addition to BAe with the Nimrod.

The ‘Orion 2000’ was new build, and was propoded by a consortium consisting of Lockheed Martin, GEC – Marconi and Hunting.

The other bid was from Loral using refurbished P-3’s.

Yes, as it stands, there is no one company that has built an aircraft from scratch without assistance from another company.

However, Historic Flying are pretty close to being able to do so, having jigs and tooling for most things – if they choose so to do.

    Bruce

Stand to be corrected, but I didn’t think they had any CAA approvals for carrying out this kind of thing.

If you had a Spitfire PR19 data plate, could you rebuild it as a mark 1a?

No. The data plate sets a base line. You are saying that this particular aircraft you are ‘rebuilding’ will be to the same design and specification as to when it originally left the factory.

Any changes or modifications to this design standard, you wish to make, would have to be submitted to the CAA via a major or minor mod.

There is no mod to convert a PR19 into a MK1a!

I suppose £1.75m is not bad value, considering that E-Type ‘Speedster’ Jezza was testing on Top Gear last night was £500k.:eek:

Plenty of disused airfields such as Docking, North Creake, West Raynham, Sculthorpe, Little Snoring, Langham, Great Massingham, Bexwell and Sedgeford.

Sculthorpe is far from disused, particuarly in the past couple of weeks.

The Herc’s taxing around the place was keeping me awake last night!

A picture on the water too! Must be a rarity there Joe. In keeping with the thread…..looks cold.

Have quite a few pictures of the Catalina on water, but not with John and Paul. There was only a short period, when the aircraft operated with both of them before John’s accident. I think Paul was in RAFG for the first few seasons? But I guess you know that.

I think the picture was taken on Loch Neagh, Paul was doing his water landing checkout.

And yes, my memories of that period was; it was either cold or wet or both (but quite exciting on occasion ).
