They didn’t stand much chance against a JCB!
What a disgraceful waste 😡
The Merchantman nose is G-APES, I think the nose of EJ went to Brooklands.
The story of ES is a rather sad. It was kept airworthy ‘unofficially’, by one or two engineers at the time in the hope that it would go in to preservation. There was a strong rumour that it would go to Cosford and indeed I knew of a plan by someone who wanted to buy it and swap it for one of the Andovers at Cosford.
In the end it lost a few parts to G-APEP (the last flyer), and then it was only a matter of time.
The Aeropark had originally been allocated G-APEM, (the one in the DHL livery) but at the time didn’t have anywhere to put it. From what I remember she was pretty much 100% complete when scrapped. I think the Aeropark salvaged most of the cockpit instruments which enabled them to refit the cockpit of ES.
I suppose if ES had gone to Cosford, it would be reduced to a nose section now anyway. 🙁
Dooes anyone know where to fly one of these in France? I have been trying to look for a fighterjet experience in France without success… 🙁
Not quite a Meteor, but there is a Fouga Magister that operates out of Beavais, which gives rides.
Details on Fouga Magister.com
Where are they going to be auctioned? Not that I have the money to buy one. 🙁
I see that they are up for auction again, closing date for bids 20th July. So I guess there will be delivery flights after this date with RAF crew.
Hope he packs the sun tan lotion this time!
I see that there appears to be a GPU parked by the nose of the Argosy, can the aircraft still be powered up?
I got the bypass kit in the shed, if you want to unfeather the props and put them back in to ground fine position.
When I started as an apprentice I bought a set of these. I think they were £42 for the set (which was over a weeks wages in those days!). Nice to see that they are still available (and stll as expensive!).
I think Tollerton would be a ‘dream fly’ out destination – but only for today though.
This is due to an ‘event’ taking place near the airfield, (and its not the the cricket) :diablo:
Popped into the museum myself yesterday, so here are a few extra pictures.
I love the smell of dope in a morning. 🙂
It’s in very nice condition, picture taken earlier in the year.
Lets hope it stay’s at the museum.
Thanks for the replys. Agreed about the website, needs to be updated.
Looks like I am going to head west to the Mosquito Museum instead!
Damien thanks for the link about Wellsbourne, I will probably fly in for that one if the weather is ok. Anybody else from here planning to go?
Just keep watching. Discovery Wings is on a continous loop, so it won’t be long before its on again. 😀
Apart from the fact that what you have printed is probably libellous or slanderous Brendan is OK and a far more decent person than a number that have been known to post on these forii.
Agreed. I thought the remarks were unfair and unnecessary.
I seem to remember a couple of airshow parties where he went down rather well, particularly with the laaadies. 😎
Strange to try to sort out a CoG issue by using the battery (ie: something which need to be removed from the a/c each year) rather than some nice permenant lumps of lead
Why add weight when you can use existing?
