Someone somewhere must’ve paid out a lot of ” Money for nothing” It would seem. 😉
By the way this aircraft has the biggest battery ever shoe-horned into a Spitfire and boy is it a struggle to get it out for cap testing and charging! Huge fuel tank wet wing thing going on as well……..just an excuse for a lot of PRC! Not one of Trent Aero’s finest attempts.
The wet wing mod was not done by Trent Aero. The large battery was installed to try and bring the C of G aft because of the wet wings.
No
Yes they are. They just don’t do Spitfire restorations.
Spey 111 thanks for posting the pictures. Any idea what the plans for the aircraft are?
Yep food will be available, all the stuff pilots like, breakfasts, burgers etc. Was a bit caotic at the weekend but should be just the ticket for the weary Aviator 🙂
Thats good. Last time I ordered food in The Aviator had to wait ages and then I didn’t get what I ordered. When I took it back the lad said something along the lines of ‘don’t worry nobody will notice’. Which, I found a little baffling
BTW Blue Max are you the person I spoke to when I was at Sywell having the cover made for the Auster?
What’s the Pilots Mess like?
The Aviator Hotel always seems a bit of a hit or miss affair for food, will you be able to get food in the new facilities?
Hello Simon
Thanks for posting the weather info. I have just noticed that none of the links that you posted work.
Thanks Dave,
Will they form the basis for a reconstruction?
Cheers
Cees
Yes it will, and is currently in progress (albeit slowly).
I think it is now in Ireland.
Many happy memories flying in this aircraft with the late John Watts.
PS: Always thought it was a bit evil for the local flying school to send students on a land-away (admittedly usually dual) to Fenland, which they do quite often in the summer.
I see nothing changes then. I learnt at EMA mid eighties and remember being sent there on a solo land away. And it was much harder in those days because they didn’t have the long E/W runway (he says in dodery old bloke type voice) 🙂
Fit an ADF (FNL – 401) then – worked every time for me! 😉
Andy
Ah yes, though I seem to remember that my problem was compounded by the fact the aircraft was fitted with an ADF, but sadly not functioning correctly
Aiming to try, if weather – and my ability to find Fenland – allows!
Glad it’s not just me who’s had their moments trying to find Fenland 😮
Just put my name down, anyone else planning to drop in?
I cannot understand why she fell in to decline so quickly.
Looking at the website she seemed well cared for, and a lovely new engine fitted not that long ago.
It’s a real shame 🙁
If only A) i had the money and B) i didnt know her mechanical history !
Bless ‘er she didnt do anyone any harm….. 🙁
As shes been resident at sywell from c.1952 to 2004, she really should return but apart from selling a kidney i dont have the cash, or the required money for an engine rebuild 😮
TT
Does it need an engine rebuild? Adverts says its only done 400 hrs t/t since rebuild in 01.
