First in best dressed … we’re on Daz’s action films theme
9. Deep Throat
Jackie Chan and Owen Wilson
ps. don’t forget the Derek and Clive (the grubby alter egos of Peter Cook and Dudley Moore) … those characters were SO very funny.

Quite agree – just being provocative to see what histories are revealed.
I’m thinking I’d really like to read/have some sort of us & them view of the whole aerial campaign. Nearest I’ve ever read is “The Other Battle” by Peter Hinchcliffe which is IMHO a fascinating objective presentation of the two battling sides in the Western Front night air war (Bomber Command vs Nachtjagd). But that’s apost-war objective analysis. I’d be fascinated to read a two-sided history containing the prejudices, opinions and “known facts” of the two opposing forces. For example, Rotterdam would be on the one hand a terrible example of odious terror bombing (starting that process so to speak) and on the other hand an obvious and regrettable snafu (whatever the German is for that) that anyone in his right mind would acknowledge as such.
Anyone know of such a thing? Want to create one?
2. Dubya
although frankly I wouldn’t say I hate him (or anyone really) but I sure as hell disrespect him!

Lovely – as a chap who obviously knows his stuff 😉 would you care to offer a similarly cogent analysis of why the US/UK forces advanced so slowly across Germany (and into Berlin) in the dying months of the European War? Was it
(a) to limit cost of US lives
(b) to limit cost of US and UK lives
(c) only [a] above .. the Limeys would have gone at it harder
(d) to increase cost of Russian lives
(e) to pay back Germany for being the b’s who started it all ..let the Red Army deal to them
(f) because of supply chain extension or other practical difficulties
(g) something else
cheers D
It’s not actually that expensive. I came withing an ace of returning to Mrs JDK with a confession that I’d spent all my pocket money on ‘a great deal, honest’, but the thought of not being fed for the remainder of the month in Canada stayed my hand. 😀
Peter – first off, what a great time you must have had, good on you and well deserved given your obvious commitment to Lancs over the years.
Secondly, I noted James’ comments above – and had a look at the CWH website – I note a “Lancaster” membership at C$2000 includes an “opportunity to crew” whatever that means. Is this the only way an “outsider” can fly in a Lanc these days?
Thanks, Don
What the .. I thought I was on page one and putting in number 8 !!!

Fascinating and thanks ShabbyAbbey. I note some sort of cover plate plainly visible and that the other 2 aircraft in the photo still have their turrets in place. Doesn’t really prove the argument (that they were no longer required) does it? Thanks for the photo – and Jim that’s the kind of pic I was looking for 😉
