RE: BA announce new routes from Manchester
British Airways confirmed the three new destinations that will be served by British Airways CitiExpress, a wholly owned subsidiary of British Airways, from the end of March this year.
The three European hotspots – Pisa and Bologne (Italy) and Vienna (Austria) have been announced by the airline as part of a bumper package unveiling plans of new routes, more flights and 400 more seats every weekday. All three
destinations will operate daily from 30th March 2003 using a 49-seat Embraer 145 aircraft. No other airline currently offers scheduled services to Pisa or Bologne from Manchester.
The flight to Bologne will depart Manchester at 12.55pm from Monday to Friday, returning from Bologne at 5.05pm. On Saturday, it will leave Manchester at 2.45pm, returning at 6.55pm and on Sunday it will leave Manchester at 12.10pm returning at 4.20pm.
The flight to Pisa will depart Manchester at 9.30am daily except Saturday, returning from Pisa at 1.40pm. On Saturday it will leave Manchester at 11.20am, returning at 3.30pm.
The flight to Vienna will depart Manchester at 2.50pm daily except Saturday, returning from Vienna at 7.15pm. On Saturday it will leave Manchester at 8.45am returning at 1.00pm.
The airline will also double the number of flights to Rome, Geneva and Hanover and offer hundreds of extra seats a year with larger aircraft and more flights to Belfast, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Lyon, Madrid, Nice and Zurich. This expansion will result in a fleet of 26 aircraft based at Manchester.

RE: BA Fleet news that may interest some of you.
Now that the A319’S have left the regional bases, does that mean that all The Avro RJ 100’s have finally left London Gatwick?

RE: London – Prague flights
The Low cost airline Go operate 3 flights a day from London Stansted to Prague with fares from around £50 return (or maybe lower!!) From the end of March, Go is being taken over by easyJet who will still operate 3 services a day from Stansted to Prague. easyJet also operate services from Prague to East Midlands, Bristol and Newcastle. bmibaby operate from East Midlands to Prague aswell.

RE: Buzz launches flights to Almeria
I think Buzz try to fly to alternative airports for easier and speedier access for passengers. They fly to Murcia which is a good alternative to Alicante. I’ve flown to Murcia with them and the airport was so quiet and relaxed compared to Alicante in the height of the summer when it gets overcrowded in the boiling heat. Jerez de la Frontera is a good alternative to Malaga. They also used to fly to Gerona in Northeren Spain instead of Barcelona but I’m not sure they will continue to operate this route seeing as Ryanair is launching a double daily service from London Stansted to Gerona on 20th February 2003. Even though Gerona is on the Costa Brava in Spain, I find it amusing that Buzz is honest and just calles it Gerona airport while Ryanair have to refer it to Barcelona!

RE: Who is bigger? Ryanair or EasyJet
I would say easyJet is larger due to the recent take over of Go – Fly and the planned take over of dba.
Low – Cost airlines currently flying out of Frankfurt – Main are buzz with their services to Stansted. Germania also operate a low-cost flight to Berlin Tegel and Air Berlin offer shuttle flights to Palma de Mallorca (and a few other destinations I think!).
Ryanair operate out of Frankfurt Hahn if your interested!!

RE: NEW NO-FRILLS AIRLINE PLANNING TO OPERATE UK – USA ROUTES!!!!
Business Model
SKY-BUS Long Haul Airline Opportunity
THE CHANGING FACE OF THE AIR TRAVEL
Available international seat miles shrunk over 17% in the wake of September 11, 2001 – according to US Bureau of Statistics. Current ATA data shows international airline system load factors continue to recover. Continued press coverage of major international airlines dramatic reduction in long haul aircraft numbers and destinations served. JetBlue and Pan Am US domestic airline startups flourish. Ryanair, EasyJet and Go European domestic airline startups rapidly expand.
DOMESTIC STARTUPS APPLY NEW AIRLINE BUSINESS MODEL
Focus on A “no frills” service – offering customers the best experience that can be delivered. Aircraft fleet consists of same aircraft type – same engines – same avionics – same passenger services. Route structure selected to serve major population markets from secondary airports – avoids direct competition with established major airlines. Routes support rapid aircraft turnarounds and high aircraft utilization. E-Ticketing (Internet based) dominates seat sales. Maintain steeply discounted fares to support “better value” theme with passenger. Flight yield management dominated by simple fare regime and direct advertising to fill aircraft.
SKY-BUS BUSINESS MODEL
USA based long haul international passenger airline service linking new startup carrier networks in Europe, Asia and USA using secondary airfields with a reliable high frequency schedule and aircraft utilization exceeding 18 hours in every 24. 100% E-ticketing and information. Single class cabin with increased space per passenger (pro DVT risk reduction strategy) and some group seating. Serve liquid refreshments and light pre-packaged snacks. No hot food service. In-air kiosk selling of expanded refreshment/food/duty free choices. Video in-flight entertainment package. Separate international passenger handling and full security provisions. Employees have significant share in SKY-BUS ownership. Operate one uniform aircraft type with distinctive yellow and black paint scheme.
SKY-BUS INITIAL OPERATIONS
Initial route – London (Luton – hub for EaseyJet/Go) to Orlando, Florida (Sanford – served by many European holiday charter operators and PAN AM domestic services) continue to Portsmouth NH (Pease International – hub for PAN AM and feeder to JetBlue) and then back to London. Operate 2 aircraft one flying London-Orlando-Portsmouth-London other on London-Portsmouth-Orlando-London route expand to 4 aircraft to offer day or night flights either way between Orlando/Portsmouth and London. Unrestricted $150 one way fares, discounted below $99 – profitable flights at 76% Load Factor. Dry lease B767-300ER aircraft operated by own or contract flight/cabin crews. Inventory of 550 seats/day. Marketing includes commercial TV program offered to European/USA TV networks featuring ongoing airline operations (as pioneered by EasyJet in UK). First expansion would include service Orlando/Portsmouth to Dublin (Shannon Ireland – Ryanair Hub) and London (Stanstead – Go Hub). Further expansion to USA West Coast.
SKY-BUS STARTUP PLAN
Takes 12 months from business start to achieve FAA airline certification to inaugurate scheduled flights 1 July 2003. Find and appoint airline proven senior managers. Deploy E-Ticketing and airline operations system within 6 months. Train cabin crew and passenger service agents within following 3 months. Negotiate initial aircraft leases and select baseline aircraft for expanded operations. Market research for routes. Negotiate coordinated flight schedules with domestic partners.
SKY-BUS EXPANDED OPERATIONS
Within 3 years $250MM sales US carrier to European and Asian destinations with all next generation Boeing 767-500 ER fleet. Linking Virgin Airlines (Australia), China National, EasyJet with JetBlue and Pan Am domestic USA networks.
SKY-BUS FINANCING OPPORTUNITY
Establish business and startup inaugural service $12MM. Fund route operations and expansion to breakeven after 12 months airline service $28MM. Longer term financing for new aircraft operations $75MM. Total over 3 years $115MM.

RE: Delsey / VG Airlines almost banckrupt
It is reported that the airline was struggling just to acheive 30% load factors! I think they just chose the wrong routes. New York is O.K i guess but they may have been more successful flying to Africa or in Europe – or become a low – cost airline even!

RE: Are Air Lib Express getting carried away?
Air Lib Express are using the DC-10’s on Routes to Fort – de – France in Martinique and Pointe-A-Pitre in Guadeloupe in the French Carribean. These 2 routes are extremely popular with the french tourists and Air France and Corsair always manage to fill up their daily 747-300 flights to these islands. I think Air Lib Express must have a lot more than just 1 MD-80 because they operate :
Paris Orly Sud – Figari up to 5 weekly flights
Paris Orly Sud – Marseille up to 4 daily flights
Paris Orly Sud – Nice up to 11 daily flights
Paris Orly Sud – Perpignan up to 5 daily flights
Paris Orly Sud – Tarbes Lourdes up to 2 daily flights
Paris Orly Sud – Toulon up to 5 daily flights
Paris Orly Sud – Toulouse up to 9 daily flights
Paris Orly Sud – Annecy up to 4 daily flights
Paris Orly Sud – Lannion up to 3 daily flights
Paris Orly Sud – Metz up to 4 daily flights
Paris Orly Sud – Biarritz up to 1 daily flight
Metz /Nancy – Nice up to 1 daily flight
Metz / Nancy – Toulouse up to 1 daily flight
Lille – Nice up to 1 daily flight
Lille – Marseille up to 1 daily flight
Nice – Toulouse up to 1 daily flight
Paris Orly Sud – Fort-De-France : 1 daily flight & 2 flights on thursday
Paris Orly Sud – Pointe-A-Pitre : 1 daily flight & 2 flights on saturday
Paris Orly Sud – Rome (Fiumicino) up to 3 daily flights
Paris Orly Sud – Milan (Malpensa-Terminal 2) up to 3 daily flights
Paris Orly Sud – Venise (Marco Polo) : 1 daily flight
Paris Orly Sud – Pise (Galileo Galilei) : 1 daily flight
I somehow think that this cannot be done with just 1 DC-10 and 1 MD-83!!!
If you look on Air Lib Express’ website, they seem to be transferring a lot of Air Lib Routes into Air Lib Express routes. All the above routes were former Air Lib routes except the new Italian services. I would also think that Air Lib will transfer their flights to Algeria, Libya, Cuba and La Reunion into low-cost flights very shortly.
I think these Carribean services could be very successful seeing as they are busy routes.
