Rebuilds
there you go, Airframe Assemblies & hey presto, a brand new Spit, just need a wartime history, might as well forgo the history, just paint it in a sparkling scheme and show the true grace and elegant lines of a ‘real’ aeroplane.
G-FIRE for example
Hi all, i’ve just been looking through some old threads & found this ! As i recall Paul when you visited us last year you were very impressed by the work we are doing !! Hope after your visit you changed your opinion of the restoration business !!
Steve
thanks Bruce, I htought it looked identical to hurricane one.. What makes it seafire spitfire?
Hi its spitfire because thats what it is ! fits between fr9 & f10 , stb side of cockpit just above the lower longeron, I’ll find part no tomorrow.
Steve
They made a few, technically a Mk.XVI is a Mk.IX with a Packard engine anyway so a change to RR would technically convert it to a Mk.IX. That’s my understanding anyway!
Seems they made a few low back MK IX’s after 1945 !!
Steve
Mmmmm ! The low back Type 361s are my favourite !… especially the Mk.IXs.
I think the conventional high back is superior for speed though.
Are you sure they made low back IX’s !!
Steve
Hi Cees, yes 4 MKI’s underway. It seems to have been missed on here! Lets see how many get serial No’s right!

Hi Mackerel,
That sounds feasable. Any idea where / what?
Hi Fieldhawk, I should say something like flare shute door lock on a MK1 spitfire, but i’m only guessing !!
Steve,
Has anyone got a copy of Spitfire drawing number 30064 SHT 13? Also of interest would be drawings 30064-125 and 30064-127. None of these are listed at the RAF Museum.
Hi Fieldhawk ,i recon these part numbers relate to some sort of latch !!
Steve
Nope its not the ones you are thinking off from NZ…
This is more Engineering drawings and before anyone asks, not making it readily available, sorry. If there is anything specific as in description I will look see what I have. RAFM may have them, do not know.
Hi all, is it one of the cd’s from spitfire restorations web site ? Would be intresting to see what is on it! especially as we are short of a few !!
Steve
I think that would be reasonable, last time I tried to get a seat for 1 of mine, it was ‘ a fowesand pound mate! ‘
A “fowesand pounds” would be cheap for a flyer. £10000 nearer the mark !!
Steve
Hi Steve,
Thought it was the fwd one on F5.Can send you a copy as well.PM your email addy 🙂
Hi Qldspitty, i was after a drawing for the fwd hoop that the fuel tank cover sits on. After a lot of searching have found the drawing, 36630-15 fwd boundry angle. Thanks anyway.
Steve.
What Mark old bean? For MkIX you need 36127-157-C Boundary angle. Can email it to you 🙂
Hi Qldspitty,Is this the fwd boundry angle that the fuel tank cover attaches to ? If so where did you get the drawing from as i need a copy!
Cheers Steve
Hi all, fantastic air to air footage , think i must have missed these programs. Thanks to all those pilots like Mr Brothers !
Steve
Looks like a Spitfire part number 30008 etc therefore a bit of wing, really cannot ID it though. + 6S (Supermarine) inspection stamp would seem to confirm this.
looks to be Stainless Steel or is it Ali?
Hi Chris, looks the same profile as leading edge ! was thinking may be cover on gun tubes ??
Steve
Hi all, the panel in the first picture looks simelar to one fitted on under side of port wing where pitot mast sticks through, but with out hole cut for the mast. Its definately not the aileron drum access hole panel.
Steve
Hi all , in the 1980’s Charles Church also had a hanger on the Isle of Wight at Sandown Airport. I have a picture some where of his Mustang parked outside , also a buchon .
