BBMF Spit and Hurricane over the house in Gosport flew out towards the Isle of Wight then landed at Daedalus about 1945hrs.

Pretty sure that was at Brunty.
Roy.
Come to think of it I think it was Brunty. I must have got it confused with the Bournemouth one.
loved it when he took the engine out of that car at the side of the road
Ahh yes the little Trabant I wish the engine on my mondeo was as easy the clutch would have been a lot easier.

Mr Coltrane is one of the very few celebrities I’d actually like to meet. His passion for all things mechanical is a joy to behold !
Roy.
And as was shown on the series he was not afraid to get his hands dirty. Top Bloke!!
Did anyone see the Chris Barrie series ‘Massive Machines’? One programme featured a super guppy IIRC it was the one at Bournemouth? Imay be wrong though but they opened it up for the series.

Probably operating into Cranfield then?
It still operates out of Boscombe Down as part of the ETPS they also have two more there as well as a couple of BAC 1-11s operated by QinetiQ but due to the sensitive nature of the base Cant get any pics.

Robbie Coltaine?
The Robbie Coltraine TV show was ‘Planes, Trains & Automobiles’. One show did a piece where he visited a bloke in Germany who restored DB605s.

Who cares what people think about it nowadays, it’s a real story that happened over sixty years ago. As was said earlier you cannot just judge historic happenings using todays way of (sort of bloody silly 😉 ) thinking.
If you make a film about the Dambusters without Nigger being mentioned then you aren’t filming the Dambusters but something that looks like it but without the true events in mind.
If people don’t like the film being made then don’t go. Or else do go and judge for yourself without bothering others who just go and see it and form their own opinion.
Cees
Hear hear, Gibson and Nigger must be turning in their graves along with the rest of 617 that took part.
Martin
I would imagine 99.9% of them wouldnt be bothered

why is it any discussion about The Dambusters remake always descends into a row about what to call the dog? ITS JUST A DOG!!! 😡 His name was Nigger and so he was a part of the raid Gibson used his name as the codeword for a breach in the Mohne Dam plain and simple FACT. the PC brigade should all mind their own business and go home and knit a wooly jumper!
I’ll get off my box now
Martin
just a thought, If there is going to be a lot of CGI can someone pass on details of that japanese geek that has been featured on here a few times

was sorting through our stores at my Air Cadet squadron and came across a model of a Spitfire (V I think) in I think 1:32 scale but in diecast metal complete with moving prop, control surfaces, undercarriage and removable engine cowls. Anyone know who produced it and is it still available?

Best :- 1:72 Lancaster from the BBMF Kit which now has some more authentic paddle blade props which I robbed from a dead Matchbox Lancaster kit just need to find the right fins with the enlarged rudder now. Non airfix kit would have to be an Italeri 1:48 C130H Hercules, converted to C1P configuration and it was HUGE!!
Worst: A tie between the 1:72 B17G – the Cockpit windows never fitted properly and the waist guns were too thin., 1:72 Junkers 88 – The wings wouldn’t fit properly and the nose glazing was missing (I ended up making one out of a used Feu Orange car freshener!) and the 1:72 DHC1 Chipmunk – a real disappointment, too fiddly and the worst case of rivet acne I’ve ever seen and the A/c was mostly fabric covered.
Most Built :- probably Spits in various versions as they were so easy to build and…….er…….break so had to replace.
good god someone actually bought one?!?! 😮 I’ve got a lovely 1/48 Hercules thats looking for someone to love 😉 😀
I also bought the 1:48 Airwolf which was a Bell 222B kit with the add ons for an Airwolf conversion. I still have the complete kit although a bit battle worn now and more than a little dusty. I also had the Italeri 1:48 C130 Hercules, when built it filled my Bedroom ceiling but that hasnt fared as well, it suffered cat 5 damage when the pins holding it to the ceiling finally gave way after a redecorate.

Sounds like a film in the making there.
As for a DB remake as has been mentioned earlier the emphasis on the youth of the crews should be shown. The crews I think should be made up of fresh young talent possibly some of the cast who played the wartime crew in the beebs ‘Night Flight’. For the ‘top brass’ I would cast:
Wallis – Martin Clunes
Harris – Ronnie Barker would be my first choice but sadly no longer with us so I would choose Michael Gambon or David Jason
Whitworth – Kris Marshall (BT ads)
Cochrane – Robert Lindsay

Flypast and I think Aeroplane did some aricles a while ago of wartime recollections in the Air Training Corps. I will have to have a dig to find the issues if I still have them.
Aquick google brought this up http://www.wartimememories.co.uk/aircadets.html

Doesnt Hurricane PZ865 have a civil reg no G-AMAU? or is that now defunct?
