I pass Daedalus airfield (Lee on the Solent) in Hampshire which have a collection of warbirds on the SE corner of the field. Also on the NE corner there is a yellow Harvard coded RN-X (cant quite see the serial no.), a Tiger Moth and a Piper Cub parked in a hangar. anyone know who own them? Are they flyers?

Exactly, as mentioned before there are longer stretches of motorway devoid of service areas, at 118 miles the M25 has just three,. Anyone who feels the need to rest after 30 minutes of driving should not be allowed to take their car out of their driveway :p
Three? I thought there was only two, South Mimms and Clackett Lane Where is the third?
Looking at the plans my concern is for road safety. The close proximity of the services to the junction will I feel turn the area into an accident blackspot with people coming on at junction 10 and people trying to get off at the services. We have the same problemon the M27 at Rownhams in both directions due to the close proximity to junction 4 for the M3 and junction 3 for the M271 which are about a mile apart. It is regularly congested and there are frequent accidents.
Not been online for a while but a couple or three weeks ago was treated to a flypast of BBMF Lanc sans fighter escort over Portsmouth Harbour at about 1030ish just as HMS Lancaster was coming back into port. One of those ‘wish I had a camera’ moments.
Nice to see her in the open. anyone know why she has ‘painted on’ windows on the fuselage? I’ve always found it curious.
There was a programme on National Geographic at the same time about the Battle of Britain using original colour footage from the Battle. Caught it on +1
We had the Utterly Butterly Stearmans over Gosport this weekend for the HMS Sultan Summer Show. Did a couple of Displays.

Great photos, this one gave me goose bumps. Great atmospheric shot.
Neal
Me too cracking shot, he is almost willing them to come home.

Ah yes of course. Thanks for that Dave (and Ollie). I’ve seen (genuine) footage of bouncing bombs being dropped by a Mosquito, can’t recall any similar (genuine not the film) of a Wellington – but can fully believe it. cheers
some of the footage in the original DB was the original test drops of the half size dummy prototypes

I would think that the Avro Manchester would come high up on the list due to its poor performance and its inability to fly on one engine and possibly the Hampden and other light bombers on daylight raids in the early part of the war
Does anyone know if the Ju52 used in WED still flies?
They shall not grow old as we that are left grow old. Age shall not weary them nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and inthe morning, we will remember them
As long as the CGI aircraft ‘behave’ properly (no impossible 20g turns etc) I’m confident that with modern CGI techniques we have a chance to see a good film.
If the Lancs are to be CGI then the help of that Japanese geek mentioned on here should be signed up and given the chance to shine. I cant really see the BBMF allowing PA474 to be used and the Panton brothers have already stated they would like ‘Jane’ to stay as she is.
As for Nigger it depends on what point of view the film is focused. If PJ is make it as a memorial to the NZ aircrew and focuses on that, then there is no need to mention Nigger other than the fact he gets run over. Then only the codeword for the breach of the Mohne Dam would be changed. In the original the only time that Nigger gets mentioned is when Gibson lands after his last raid of his current tour, and he calls Nigger(which could be replaced with “hello boy!”), the assembly at Scampton when Hopgood ‘buys’ Nigger a beer (could be referred to as ‘your dog’), the road accident (again could be referred to as ‘your dog’) and the much debated ‘apparition’ at the end. This way Nigger is still in the film without upsetting the Pathetic Cretin (PC) brigade.

I will have to put it on my ‘to buy’ list then.
I have the Goodall copy of LT and after reading Lancmans post I will be replacing it with another Goodall copy when it finally dies.
BTW has anyone read JCs sequel to LT,’Mosquito Victory’?
I wish I could see whatever the ‘BBC documentary The Lancaster Legend’ is; it’s been mentioned on the cover of just about every reprint of ‘Lancaster Target’ for years, and I’ve never seen the blasted thing!
Ahhh I’ve lost count the amount of times I’ve read that book. I would love to see The Lancaster Legend and I’ve trawled high and low for references to that doc but have come up nought so far.
